I am sure that apps could be written but Toyota will not allow any other software on their locked down units, as MrBlack says "Apple Play works brilliantly on my wifes $20k Hyundai though......."

I wonder if android auto and car play being substituted by Toyota Link has anything to do with Toyota then not being able to charge customers over $300 for a still out of date map?
Why does the Australian market put up with this? I know I am always going on about this but how come European customers can download maps for free?
Is it about time we got together to contact Toyota Australia to let them know their customers are fed up with being treated as a soft touch?

        Hey antpower,
I also get that a lot. Even though the app is still open in the background, I have to close and re-open and off it goes again. (the phone/contacts all still auto connect though, but not 'link') Annoying - yes.

Also for MrBlack, just got email reply from Toyota (3 weeks later) that they have fixed my Toyota Link login properly. I can now login on a PC and setup Toyota Link - as you are meant to be able to. See previous post - they got my 'car' toyota link working a week and a half ago, So, I guess there WAS a software issue after all.
Can you login via a PC ? If not , I would get them to start there. There seemed to be more a software issue with their system and my login - rather than the car head end unit. Good Luck - interested to see how you go.

I too have had no luck with Toyota Link on either on the phone or the PC.
Not sure if I will persevere as the kids have spotify playing on all their iPods via bluetooth and the satnav works.
Just had our first weekend in the car and tried it on some muddy forest trails. Great vehicle so far, so comfy and solid, family love it.

            Finally !!!!

After numerous visits to the dealership and hours on the phone I decided to take matters into my own hands.

Called up the help desk, via the app, and told them to delete my account from their end. Reinstalled the app, registered my login vehicle details etc, then deleted all personal data from the head unit. So basically a complete start over.

What do you know - it works.......

Sure its a bit gimmicky but it is what I paid for so I wanted it to work.

You would think that an international company with a full team of spin doctors would monitor this page and provide some response or direction?

Alas, I think the Prado is an inconvenience hence the out of date maps and 2500kg towing capacity. #wishiboughtapajero

Toyota link without Toyota sat nav

I've got a 150 GX & it doesn't come with satellite navigation on the head unit. Is there any point in trying to use the Toyota Link app to navigate, find fuel etc?
I'm not sure if the app will just mirror google maps on the screen or it needs the built in sat nav.
Anyone able to comment on this please?

it doesn't allow navigation. All it does is shows you the location of something on the map and that's it. All really rather pointless.

In my opinion the idiotic thing about Toyota link is that although it will search for a location online then send it to the map, in reality if the location has been constructed within say the last 3 or 4 years it will show on the out of date Toyota map as being in an area with no connecting roads.

Thanks for confirming that. From what I could find out from the Toyota website it didn't seem like anything that would be really useful.
Now if only Toyota would build in support for Android Auto!! They seem to be the only major car manufacturer that doesn't support Android Auto.

Yes they have stated that they do not want Google or Apple to have access to their cars. Using something like car play or android auto would be a way for customers to use current maps. Toyota presumably do not want this as it would prevent them charging $300 for their out of date map.
What I cant understand is why customers let them get away with it.

It appears to do nothing ..... update fails at 81% each time , no matter if phone is on 4g or wifi.

Couldn't get mine to work properly either. After reading this thread I realised the app needs to be opened on your phone before the car turns on to use some of the features. I've now finally been able to make all the features work properly, here's my review of each.

                              Audio: Works fine
Telephone: Usually works, sometimes randomly won't load contacts.
Messages: Stupid, I don't use it.
Eco: OK, but only shows fuel consumption. Think of all the other possible data it could (and should) show
Bluetooth: Works well, links fast. No issues. Audio sounds better connected by cable rather than streamed by Bluetooth, but that's pretty standard
Destination Download: What a piece of s$#t. If it does actually load, it just shows a destination marker on an outdated, old map. No navigation info to that destination. Absolute crap, use Google maps on your phone.
Local Search: Crap, use Google maps on your phone
Fuel Finder: This is actually not bad, but a little awkward given you need to have opened the Toyota Link app on your phone prior to turning the car on for it to work, and then it won't navigate you there once you choose.
Weather: Meh - it works, but your phone is probably much better/faster
Touchscreen: Pretty unresponsive, regularly takes a couple of attempts to push a button

Overall - disappointing and dated compared to other cars. Ridiculous Toyota won't open it up to other software. If I could remove TL and install better software I'd do it immediately.

Hi Folks, activating an older thread to discuss issue with Toyota Link app and connection to 2020 VX Prado. Works on the phone OK but connectivity to multimedia unit is not so good. Phone automatically connects via Bluetooth automatically. Initially vehicle could not access weather via Bluetooth but now does (usually). Calendar display works occasionally. YouTube video shows person (& thanks to that person) setting a destination on the phone app then sending to the vehicle, walks to the vehicle, turns on power then finds the trip. My app says the trip is sent to the vehicle but my Prado does not receive the trip or at least cannot access it. Can anyone suggest how to fix?

Oh and no android / iphone mirroring was a big disappointment! A very big disappointment as I have several offroad apps that I would like to have used on screen. I guess Toyota views a Land Cruiser as a commercial vehicle not worthy of the luxury of something most other new cars have. I'm sure that tax office appreciates the Luxury Vehicle Tax I paid as part of the purchase price. A Prado costing over $70,000 does not have the connectivity functions offered by a Corolla costing about 1/3 of the price of a VX. This is my second and maybe last Prado.

In a nutshell, NO android / iphone mirroring and Toyota Link doesn't work properly. At least the radio works.
Prado GXL 2012 Charcoal - Drifta Drawers, Cargo Barrier, Sidewinder Dual Battery kit, Ironman Bar, Narva lights, Safari Snorkel, Airbags, TX3350 kit, Waeco CFX65DZ - often seen with Thule 2.2M narrow roof pod and towing 2014 Kimberley Kamper. Could be anywhere!
