    Hi all.

    I am new to this site and only last week picked up my 2016 GXL. Very happy with the car but the Toyota Link does not work!!

    Have set up the account, downloaded the app but it fails to update in the car.

    It always comes up with a "Update Unsuccessful" error message.

    Toyota Link have referred me to the dealership but they don't really know what is wrong..

    Any one else had this issue??

    Hi MrBlack, I wouldn't be too worried about it. I set it up once and haven't used it again.

    You have to have the ToyotaLink App running before you start the car (The App won't launch if the bluetooth connection to the car is already established). Then the only potentially useful app is Pandora, but I use Apple Music. The rest is fairly 'gimmicky'.

    It did install an update on the head unit that first time though which added the Eco App. Problems with your net connection from your phone maybe?

      Had the same on mine , just re did the set up again and works fine.

          Picked up my car this week also and haven't been able to finish the update.
          I can't sign into the app either at it keeps saying my details are wrong.. (tried different phones and making new accounts) But the phone is linked via bluetooth and tries to update so I'm guessing it doesn't need toyota link to update. My guess is there servers are down or something..

            33som, I had the same issue. Called the help number and they said best thing to do was to uninstall the app, the reinstall. In actual fact I had to uninstall, restart the phone and then reinstall (the install takes ages, no idea why for such a small app) and it works again.

            The app is pretty poor really, can't import addresses from google, no mirror link, can't add other streaming music services (Deezer, Spotify etc.) and running the app seems to use heaps of battery.

              They are replacing the head unit of the car. They think that will work for me??

              Also there is an update this week for the app.

                Even when you do get it working you will still be restricted to the few things that Toyota allow. As said above no mirroring, Toyota couldn't possibly let you use an up to date map, you are forced to keep to their at least two year old offering.
                If you search for a new development Toyota Link presumably uses google maps so it can be easily found. Sending it to the head unit will result in the location shown in the middle of nowhere with no connecting roads as the head unit navigation is so old.

                  Hey MrBlack,
                  I also have just picked up my new 150 and cannot get Toyota link to work.I have set up my account through Toyota owners - no problem, but when you click on Toyota link - I get a "ERROR MESSAGE" and try calling 1300 (which didn't even ring ??).
                  I contacted Customer experience and they made out I was the first in the world with the problem, but did say they would get someone to help. The next day when I went to "apps" (on the car) it would not open until I did an update. I allowed it to update and the extra apps appeared. Great ! Nope. when you select on the apps they cannot connect (or work). I have tried every thing suggested, reload app, reboot, delete app- reboot- reload, treid different phone, tried 4g ipad, scratch head, bang head, it still doesnt work.
                  The "apps" did download thru my phone, so something did work, and it obviously connected.
                  What I dont get is that the Toyota link webpage (off any PC) I cannot login, or off any phone app. Is the problem with their web/software ?
                  Its very frustrating after spending $65K and stuff not work. I have tried again for info from Customer experience - but no reply...
                  Back to the dealers again soon.
                  Let me know if you get it going and what they did to fix it.

                    You didn't mention it, but I'm presuming your running the phone app before you connect the phone to car ? The app on the phone has to be running for the car apps to work. You can't even start the phone app when the phone is connected to the radio though.

                      Toyota link works for me but it isn't very useful at the end of the day.
                      You get Pandora for free without ads but it's a pain to use compared to using Pandora on your phone or other device.
                      The commands take too long and it regularly freezes the screen and then the commands don't work at all.
                      I'm now just streaming from the phone via Bluetooth and that's working fine.
                      (Apple Music is my preferred source although Pandora isn't too bad)
                      I've got an iPad just used for the 4bee loaded with maps etc.
                      Once the novelty of the new car has worn off I'll be mounting it somewhere and I'll do all my tech stuff through that.
                      Plugged into the console usb socket it works well.
                      Compared to what other manufacturers are offering, Toyota link isn't very good IMO

                      Whilst we're on techy stuff, why doesn't the audio volume turn down when in reverse and the rear sensors are activated Mr Toyota? Poor.
                      There's a few other annoyances like the number of button pushes required to say switch from an am to an fm station.
                      And whole range of things that in 2016 just shouldn't be.
                      Oh well, it's comfy with a big fuel tank

                        I use Pandora through my iPhone but I have a cradle and plug the lighting USB cable straight in to the USB plug, you get way better sound quality from any audio source with no breaks or pops that Bluetooth is prone to.

                        It's basically the same as plugin an iPod in but you get all your audio sources and can use hey Siri to access them all.

                          Finally got Toyota Link working - Back to the dealer - Couldn't help me and would send a few emails.......Get back to you later......
                          Showed him what I'd done and that I couldn't even login to Toyota Link. Tried the 1300 number and it rings finally ! (it only works in office hours 10-4 EST or something like that). Woman on the phone makes out your silly and then proceeds to tell me that it has had problems the last 7-10 days. I try to login again and same same. ERROR message. She takes all my details and then she advises to try to re-register again and input all the details again without letting auto-populate take over. (Whilst I'm inputting - shes typing in the background). It lets me get the whole way thru re-register this time (which I had tried only hours before),and after that she can't understand why it hasn't come up with 'Successful Login', but it rather takes me to 'Nav'. Some more 'I'll get back to you'......... and I then try to see whats changed and Bingo- it logged in and connected.
                          So, finally got it working. And yes like everyone says - its not great and a bit gimmicky (which is incredible in 2016 with what is available to the internet!). But after spending a lot of money on a new car. I expect stuff to work. Fuel prices probably will get some use whilst travelling.
                          Thanks to this forum I was at least armed with some info and experience of others, as I kinda got sick of "They dont really train us on any of that" and "I have never heard of that before" attitudes. Maybe I just expected too much.... Thanks everyone for your input, and good luck

                            Same issue with Toyota Link.

                            I am hoping that the internet community will start writing decent apps but I aint holding my breath.

                            Also having issues with the DAB.

                            It scans stations, the one station pops up before it drops out in less than a second and says no signal.

                            I actually expected more of Toyota when it comes to software.

                              They replaced the whole head unit this week, and you guessed it, same issue.

                              Rang up the help desk via the app and the are having a look at it again. Cant be a hardware issue. Don't know why they cant just get it t work.

                              Apple Play works brilliantly on my wifes $20k Hyundai though.......
