  • Tyre - and front end question

Need some advice, like a few others posts ive got some vibration in the front end at 100kmh +, had tyres balances and wheel alignment, had inner control arm bushes done (did have issues with this mechanic screwed it the first go, but apparently now done, however from left washer that is larger on one side apparently the wide part should be it the top but in my case its on the side)

When i had the tyres balanced I was told there is a slight bubble in front left tyre, after having the fronts moved to back due to wear. Im running 285/65/16
Im having the tyres checked again tomorrow, and back to the mechanic monday, anyway heres the questions.

    1. What is the default tyre size for the 98 vzj prado? and How would they look with a 3inch lift compared to 285s. (I would also like some better fuel ecomony) 85% on road usage, looking at maybe 265/70/16 - or should I look at another size? I go on sand somewhat, alot of road use so want to keep A/T but get some more fuel economy back and keep the spare on the back rack rather than roof rack

    2. Could the front inner control arm bush washer being sideways a little cause this vibration

    3. What else should i get mechanic to check?

    4. Could that small bubble in front left tyre cause this issue?

Sorry for the long post, but want to get to the bottom of this

The bubble in the front tyre is now a weak spot and will contribute to your wobble. This tyre should be replaced.

Thanks, if I do change tyres I'm thinking Bridgestone 697 at 265/70/16 I'm told this is factory size. But with the lift is this just to small?

As long as the bushes are tight there not going to cause vibrations
Iv had to replace 2 good mikey thompson tyres a while back due to run out (ovaled) steels rims were slightly out also but ended up getting some light alloys and new tyres
Im running 265/75/16 with dobinsons 35mm lift springs ...well they say 35mm but this thing is jacked up huge now ! Lol more like 4"

Yeah the bushes are in tight mechanic confirmed, i confirmed and a truck wheel alignment place confirmed. They were the ones who found the bubble.

I can buy 2 285/65/16 coopers, but the backs are worn more than fronts or just go and get 4 Bridgestone d697 or 697lt 265/70/16.

I don't go on mud, only road and sand

How about Toyo AT2 in the 265/70R16?

The Toyo's do look like a decent tyre, and good reviews.

Does anyone think with my 3" lift 265/70/16 will look stupid? Compared to 285/65/16?

285/65R16 is actually a tad smaller than 265/70R16 in overall diameter. Go for 265/75R16 if you want to fill out the wheel arches more.

I kind of almost want to go stock tyre size but A/T, am I correct in saying that the 265/70/16 is the default size the prados came with ?

Ok, so went a few places today the tyre doesn't have a bubble but being a coppers it's not 100% even. In saying that according to pro axle all my rims are fked, pretty much all are bent.

So hoping it's the rims causing it, I went to replace them today but the speedy steels rubbed on the brake caliber, so they are ordering more for me tomorrow with a different offset. I'm not sure what my current offset is,
