  • Mr Funnel????

Has anyone got or used one of these and what's your thoughts. If they work as good as they say, more protection is better especially in the outback with dirty fuel. Checkout this link

i called them for this about 9mths ago

he said that the size required to use while pumping from the bouser was the largest one
i thought that would take up too much room

he said the best option was to have 2 jerry cans, fill one while emptying the other into your car via the small funnel

i have been looking into making a smaller alloy funnel using the fine mesh filters in our race car funnels

I have the large model with two outlets. It was a second hand, but near new one given to me by a diesel repair shop in Chicago. It is almost impossible to use it at the bowser, because of the fuel tank inlet angle. I have filled it with water and not a drop got through the mesh.

this is what's called in the Aviation fuel world as a Filter water separator, all jet fuel goes through large units multiple times before it reaches the plane, yes it will work but would work better and quicker if the nozzle of the bowser was pushed through a rubber seal to create some pressure and force it through a lot faster, good idea to have though if your outback as nothing gets through them

So, the question comes to mind, why not apply this technology to a vehicles fuel filter?

I'd say these filters being just an extra fine mesh are meant for gravity feed only and not designed for any sort of pressure pump.

there so fine when were doing a water test on them, it just beads off it, no reason it wont work at all , the bottom of the funnel will need a hose to change the angle but otherwise all good, just be time consuming at the pump as you cant push it through with pressure

For anyone who has this funnel, I can tell you that using this at any service station while filling up your vehicle can get you into big trouble with the authorities in NSW. I'm pretty sure this will also be the case in other states as well.

Having any fuel exposed at any service station can lead to fines by the EPA if you're reported by the owners of the service station. If any accidents are caused as a direct result of exposed fuel at a service station, which leads to serious injury or death, then expect a tap on the shoulders by both the Police and Workcover. Don't expect the service station owners to accept any responsibility for any accidents caused by others using those funnels.

While these funnels are good at separating water from fuel, I think they're best used safely at your own private place using jerry cans...or at least anywhere away from a service station.
