  • 90 series Prado side steps

G'day all, Im looking to get my hand on a pair of custom (Not stock) side steps to suit a 90 or 98 prado, I am looking for a pair because when we out bush we bottomed out and we bend one side step and wrecked the other one. Just seeing if anyone is selling a pair, know anyone who is selling a pair, fabricators etc?? Must be in South Australia!!
    and thanks in advance.

Hey mate. Check out a Facebook page "Toyota Prado 90s owner's sa". There was a guy looking for a 90s in Adelaide to use as a template, so he can start making up steps/sliders for out mighty 90. Unsure if he found someone but was doing a discounted price for being the guinea pig.

i have a set of TJM aluminium side steps if you want.

If you want to organise courier or freight they are yours free.

          The aren't sliders, just steps.

If you look in this photo, you will see them.

I just bought the P4x4 rocksliders ...very good value for money. The original steps are pretty hopeless if you do any offroad work at all, they will bend like aluminium cans.Look around and most are bent, even suburban cars bend them off gutters etc. Mine got bent crossing a very small farm creek and dented the sill in the process so rocksliders or even a heavy duty step is a good investment. Look better too.

Looks good mate. I'm pretty sure I will take this option on my vehicle. Just checking out some custom ones, specifically the differences as far as mounting configurations..

Black. They are a lot heavier weight wise than the originals of course but sit really nice and solid close to the body.

might add i think these are a clearance item for the 90 series , hence why they are a great price.

My only concerns at this stage are around the strength of the mounting brackets. Looking at other reviews it is the only thing that people have generally mentioned. Personally I don't have the skills let alone the equipment to modify them, so would need to get them professionally modified if they need it. Add in the cost to re-powdercoat and suddenly they are not a cheap option. There are a couple of folks that custom build them around the place with prices ranging from $450 - $1200. Almost thinking of giving the $450 custom ones a shot and seeing how they go. At least the bloke is local if I need to get them strengthened down the track...

I've read a few people talk about the mounting too but i've never heard of any ever coming loose or failing though.. so make of that what you will, they have sold many sets of these the mounting system is fine imo. Some people have never used captive nuts before, and some people are not very good installers at home either! just need to install them properly..i added a dab of loctite on each bolt,no problems. The chassis mounted brackets don't need modified for normal use..they are magnitudes more secure than the flimsy, body mounted original steps and those lasted 15 years! That said $450 for some local custom made is a very good deal, as long as they are well finished and constructed i'd probably go that way too..my initial inquiries there a few years ago were closer to the $800-900 mark though and xrox are also >$900 too

Yeah that's a fair enough point. When I looked closely at the pics on the website it appears that the brackets used to wrap around the chassis (similar bolt to a u-bolt) which is how a lot of others seem to fit. Oh well. I have agreed to the custom ones at a price of $560 which is powder coated with checker plate top. Strong enough to use a hi-lift on also.

I went to a place called Terowie 4x4 park recently which is super rocky, and being IFS I was having to give it a bit of right pedal to get anywhere. This place is full of boulders so I really don't want to second guess anything. Will post up pics when they are complete.

If anyone is in S.A and would like a set the fabricator is Coopers Custom 4x4 (he has a Facebook page). He said he could do 2 x sets for $950 ($475 each) if anyone is looking for a set?
