    Haha.. Good one.

Kind of rude considering I've been on PP for a few years.

Dave Howson from Brisbane. Look me up.

I actually thought I was providing some real information and saving PP's some money..?

Yes thanks for the info just shows an exhaust is a waste of time. I am wondering however if Toyota would be able to tell if the ECU has been modified. Maybe I need to wait until my 2.8 is out of warranty.

      Thanks

On another note I was re-reading James email to me when the tune was done and he was waiting for me to pick it up. His comment was big wheels kill Dyno numbers and even though I got great gains in power the "felt" increase from idle was closer to 65%. I believe the Dyno doesn't record off idle or something..

        Howso
That is true as larger wheels take power power to turn and the dyno measure the net power delivered at the roller. However, this effect is neglected if comparing a base run on the same setup as your initial run is a % lower as is your final run.

i.e. you cant accurately compare your dyno run to someone elses who runs significantly different wheels however from your base run to your final run the % difference is correct.

        Hope that made sense...

            Guys appreciate the feedback/support..

I have learnt a lot through this forum over the years and have purchased some items off forum members etc.. I am one of these blokes that hates putting things up at risk of getting questioned and having it pulled apart. I don't know a lot mechanically but I believe at least BPS and Roo systems are now offering these remaps.. Probably more. As none of this information was available to me when I was looking for it I thought it would be good to share. You will see that it took me a good month (from when I had it done) to post this data. If you go to BPS' Facebook page you will see the other Prado, my Prado and also 200 Series dynoed.. They have done a number of other vehicles G-Wagons etc. I used them purely on recommendation from my auto-elec mate. I have met James once when I picked the vehicle up.

If anyone local to me in Brisbane would like to come and take a drive you are welcome (within reason)..

            Thanks Howso

The exhaust add power and torque at low revs. How much of this is a benefit in real life driving through considering that diesels are more effective in the low rpm range?

It looks like the exhaust had absolutely no effect in the tune + exhaust curve. What is the reason for this? I had imagined that from the exhaust curve, the exhaust would have contributed a bit more to the tune + exhaust curve in the lower rev range.

The exhaust is probably big enough for the power the engine makes but could be improved to aid spool up, you tend not to see this on that type of dyno run as it is held steady state prior to the run commencing and is also normally done at a high enough rpm that it doesn't kick down during the WOT run.

Where you would probably see a difference is on a datalog if you floored it from idle under defined load. You can do this either on dyno or street and plot the boost profile as it spools up.

"We do the whole custom tune job for $1395 with before and after dyno sheets, also have upgraded turbo units ex stock now"
That quoted price I assume is just for the remap & dyno's? The larger exhaust is extra ??

Just curious here, but since I've never inquired about a Chip, how does this price compare to a chip install & dyno?

Sorry for the slow response. That was for the ecu remap only. I bought the exhaust separately through Scott's Rods.

                        Fantastic post mate,
with the extra gains, how does it affect your fuel performance?
am i right to think that a re-mapping is the same as a chip?

Unichip maybe, but no not the same. Chips are relatively scammy compared to a genuine retune.

I went from 11.0 per 100kms to 9.4. More power less u gotta push the pedal.

                              Well dam, sign me up.
Symo - care to explain for a simpleton like myself. i assume your alluding to the fact that chips 'trick' the ecu? whereas a re-map re-programs.
Benlux - may i ask who you used around town ?

also rough price? i would assume its around the $1500

Depending on the chip most are limited to only adjusting the rail pressure and injection duration.

With re-map they connect a tool to your Ecu via yr obd2 connector. Remove yr file off yr Ecu and remap a new file by changing torque settings, boost, fuel tables and etc.

I used infinitech tuning in WA. I think he charges $1295.
