noisy clutch after water crossings - heeelp!

Hey guys,

was driving through some water crossings last weeks and after that my clutch started making dragging or grinding noises when im pressing the clutch pedal down. The mechanic told me its the clutch bearing and it would be wise to replace it asap. Besides that the car drives without problems.
Is there a way to clean the bearings or fix the problem without pulling everything apart? If water got inside, how can I get it out?
Sorry if these questions are stupid, I dont know much about cars...
Any advice would be much appreciated as I need to make a decision today.

If the spigot bearing or thrust bearing have failed the only option is to drop the gearbox
and replace them.

Every clutch housing i've seen hasn't been water proof, water can get in and it can get out which is why it is not a good idea to use the clutch once you enter the water.

If water got in then it should have drained out though.

if the water was muddy, it can be a very different story... I have learned this the hard way

Mine did something similar. Master and slave cylinders were both changed .all was good again.

hey guys, thanks for your quick answer. Yeah the mechanic said its the thrust bearing. Clutch has never been changed for 220000 ks and yes, the water was muddy :/
quoted price would be approx 1000, clutch being 450, does that sound alright?

I had the same happen to mine a few years ago at about 100000km, didn't do anything about it, hasn't gotten any wosre.
Done 210000km now, I'll fix it when I have to change the clutch.

Hey,
but how do you know when the vlutch has to be changed? When its not working anymore?
I wanna take the var around OZ so I cant just stay in the city :/
Anyone else has a opinion on just keep driving? Cheers

We've been travelling all over the country with it like that, never been a problem, just a bit noisy when you put your foot on the clutch.
When the clutch starts slipping or something else happens then I'll change it.
