  • Front Brake Noise

    Hi everyone.
Ive got an issue that i cant seem to solve. I recently bought an 06 petrol prado.
There was a noise coming from what i assume is the brakes as I'm driving along, it doesn't matter what speed its just there.
The noise is like somethings loose, its like a ticking noise or a rattling noise.
The reason i assume its the brakes as the moment the touch the brakes the noise stops.
So i pulled the wheel off and found that the brake pads were shot so have put brand new ones in both sides.
Thinking i had solved the possible problem now i took it for a drive and all was well then 5 minutes into it the noise returned.
Has anyone come across this issue and can point me in the right direction please as its rather annoying driving along and don't really want to get charged lots of $$ from the mechanics.
    Cheers

Are you missing the anti rattle clips?

Have now inserted new clips into the front brakes but still have the same noise.
The wife reckons the noise is coming from the back brakes and same story its a clicking noise that sounds while traveling and one break peddle is applied the noise stops.

You said you recently purchased this vehicle so not sure if you are aware of this. Off topic here but if you have an 06 model and it was first registered less than 10 years ago I suggest you first look for cracks in the dashboard and then look at the extensive thread about it on pradopoint. You should be able to get it replaced for free if it is under 10.

Hi Hogey66. I had been readying thru that topic of the dash and that would be great to have my dash replaced as it's got a crack on the drivers side starting from the door and going to the gauge cluster but who do I contact and how do I get the process started to getting a new dash??
Any help about that would be great.
By the way I found the issue with my brakes, the last person to change the rear brakes forgot to put the little clips back in that stops the pads from moving. Flipping people that don't know what there doing.

                re: dash.
Check your compliance plate to see when the car was first plated. If it is within 10 years , then call your local Toyota Dealer and tell them that your dash is cracked and should be replaced. Take it in and they will do a check on the VIN and odometer and do a visual inspection. If it passes their criteria, then they will order a new dash and when it arrives they will install at no cost.

Cheers for that I shall have a look and see if it's all good to get a replacement otherwise it will stay the way it is, it's not obvious but would be nice to get a new dash out of it

Back on brake noise... #2 son is on a gap year and is working part time at a mechanic workshop. They had a car come in because it was making scraping noises. Bit odd because this car has wear indicators wired to a dash warning light. Brakes were down to the metal. Wires to the wear indicators were disconnected and cable tied to the struts. Huh? Old mate says he had an annoying light come up on the dash so he disconnected those and the light went away. OK. New discs and pads now...

If you have rear d.t.v is suggested going for new discs.
It's fairly common, I have machined many & it comes back pretty soon. Crap rotor material?
Anyway replacing them has proven to be the best solution.

These are good value & fine for rears.

Hi Guys, I too have the same problem. Missing Spring clip from both front brake calipers. The sound has been driving me nuts and I have been constantly under the car trying to figure out what the hell is rattling. Finally the penny dropped when I found this thread and pulled the wheels off to check it out. The annoying part is I had the brake pads changed (something I would normally do myself), and the rotors machined about six months ago, and I'm thinking they forgot to put the spring clips back on then...The noise has slowly developed over the past three or four months. Anyway my question is Mykec16 where did you find replacement spring clips? Cheers
