  • 2.8 Diff Breathers

    Hi all,

Has anyone done diff breathers on a 2.8 yet. I had a quick look the other day but couldn't find them all, diff, trans etc. Any help is appreciated.

Same as the previous 150? Plenty of information here. Do a Google search diff+breathers+pradopoint.

Thanks. I have searched but I was unable to find the breathers (that already existed) in the engine bay. Will look again.

They are behind the engine (between the engine and firewall, about 1/2 way down), look from the drivers side, you wont see them from the passengers side.

So I have done some reading but I may have missed something as I can't work out the 5th breather. Where is it and what fittings do I need?

I have gathered the below info.

              Rear Diff Breather (1 breather)
              1 x 1/8" BSP threaded brass fitting with a 1/4" tail barb

              Transmission/Transfer Case Breathers (2 breathers)
2 x 4mm to 3mm reduction joiner (Repco and Supercheap didn’t have these, will try Pirtek)

              Font Diff Breather (1 breather)
              5/16" brass barbed joiner

Car is in the panel beaters till fri and I need to do breathers this weekend. Any help is appreciated.

              Thanks, John

Transfer case has two breathers on its own. 1/8" hose.

                  Thanks.

So going by what I have read you can just extend these using a 4mm to 3mm reduction joiner. So would there be 3 of these to extend on the firewall?

1/4" rear differential, gearbox and front differential
                    1/8" transfer case (x2)

I made up 1/8" to 1/4" hose tail joiners for the transfer case and ran 1/4" fuel hose for all breathers.

                      Awesome, thanks heaps.

If I keep the hose the same size as the factory ones, can I use the factory breathers on the extended hose? Pirtek was $13 / breather.

So I got car back from panel beaters this arvo and did rear diff. Very easy. However, how the hell do you get to the 3 on the firewall. I've unclipped them from ontop of the transmission but I can't get to them from under the car. Any tips.

If they are like the 120, undo the second clip as well and you should be able to get them down the side of the gearbox far enough to join them. OR lay lengthways under the gearbox with the car raised to get a hand up there. Somewhere on here it is suggested that you take the right front wheel off to get better view/access.

John the three will pull down so put your hand up and make sure you have pulled the hoses out of the clips. The 120 gearbox was a pain because it went through a bracket but the 150 comes off easily. Don't use the factory caps. They aren't breathers. The cheapest option is to put in line fuel filters on the hoses. Looks a bit average is all.
