I have been pouring over maps, reading reports, listening to advice and am slowly piecing together a plan to slowly make our way back to Tasmania. There is never enough time to do everything but trying to fit in what we can but also relax and enjoy the experience.

Some of the ideas being thought about so far are; camel ride on Cable Beach (no negotiations on this apparently), Steep Point, Tom Price (couple of national parks in the area), the Pinnacles, visit family in Perth, Holland Track, Old Eyre Highway, whale watching, worlds longest golf course. This is just some of my thoughts but has filled in the evenings quite nicely.

We have even started buying things like day packs ready for the gorge walks (those that know me know that I don't like walking but at this stage am excited about the walks), looking at footwear to walk in the water of the gorges etc.
      Hello,

We are reminding ourselves how big this country & w.a is, with this in mind not to add other trips in the too & from the "Kimberly" trip. Many will be on limited time & this area is one of Aussie outback tourings highlight areas.
You could spend months in the Kimberly area alone.

I think the plan is to get up there quick, roll with gtg plans, then spend some extra time, will first see how gtg goes & what that covers. IMO Perth to Broome visa versa is awesomeness, but it's a separate trip.
While up north, the plan may be to see areas like cape leveque & Mitchell falls areas. Also any other parts we liked or missed on gtg. So although we are nearby to passing other p.o.i, just remembering time far north is limited.
We will have a separate trip that covers central Aus, then we can spend more time in that area also.
Probably end up cutting down the tanami heading back south.

If you are heading down the west coast to see family, then pinnacles are amazing & steep point is a nice drive too.
There are many more places along that coast we could add, but how much time do you have?

      Cheers,

      ####.

Thanks to Little Oz, Gramps, SOL, cfryback, and Shan for your interest.
Your right VKPrado about the Tassie contingent, looking good and will be great to see you all.

############# - so are you in? If so what's your crew consist of? And your right, a lot to see and do. We live here and we still haven't managed it all. Anyone interested in the Goldfields etc, best talk to Bushbasher....he's currently lost somewhere out there hoping to make his fortune.

Dear Mrs Whitey1 - Yes I'm in! To be crystal clear, yes 100% in will be there!
We gathered together today for a dear friends birthday, fattening up some more at buffet lunch
In between stuffing ourselves we discussed it, seems unlikely for the family next year.
It's wife's final decision, so it could change at a later date. ???
As far as other Vic crew, there have been a few seem to show interest, but being so far from home it may be difficult for them to commit. Lets see..........

We have a wedding in Broome (not ours) on 20th of May. I'm expecting to do Broome - Kununurra trip twice, and the other way once!

I still have to take the time off work, but our plan is to go HBT-MEL-ADL-PER-BRM and sights in between.

Return leg would be Tanami Road - Oodnadatta Track - Ayres Rock - MEL - HBT.

Wasn't sure if I could post on the sponsors thread so thought I would put my thoughts here.

What a great start with Redarc and MSA coming on board with support for the 2017 GTG.

Thanks to all those who have registered so far and to those who have requested forms.
I know that the distance = time away equation can be a difficult one to work out. As an example - we live in Albany WA, we travel to Broome each year for our volunteering commitment with the Gibb Challenge. This is roughly a 2600km one way trip and we can do it 4 days, towing our camper at or just below the legal speed limit in WA which is 100km p/h. (That also happens to get us the best fuel economy too).
We have done the total trip, to Broome, along the Gibb and back down the highway via Fitzroy Crossing to Broome (2 days) then back to Albany, in a total of 3 weeks. Keeping in mind we are in Broome for 3 days for preparations and then on the Challenge for 6 days and an overnight/rest day in Broome before turning south. Of course we're not stopping much to take in the sights either. We can do it but we are both exhausted by the time we get home. Granted we are very busy during this trip and have long days while on the challenge, so if we were just on holiday, it might be better. This year we did a bit over 8000km for the round trip over a 5 week period.
Yes it's a big travel commitment and represents a lot of time and $$, but I wouldn't miss it. The Kimberley region is amazing with so much to see and do, for both the avid adventurer, or the family or for those who like to just sit back and enjoy the views. And for a lot of you, getting there will be an adventure in itself!!
So I encourage any of you who are unsure, sit down and spend some time planning, see if it will work for you and your family. We would love the opportunity to show you a bit of our state and whet your appetite for more!!

                      Awesome post.
It's not often you have people who are experienced travellers in a particular area of the country, who are prepared to put an event like this together. Being one of the nicest areas of the country to visit, IMO don't miss the opportunity.

The plan from Vic is to allow 5 days to get to Kunnanurra. Str8 up the blacktop. Yes we could do it quicker, but we could also take it much slower. Not really stopping to see anything on the way, just toilet & fuel, Etc.
We want to get there the easy way so we are fresh, to see what you & the Kimberley has to offer.
Afterwards & after further discussions we will decide what else we like to see & routes home.
If any of tas, vic or s.a crew wishes to join us or visa versa, I think this would make it more fun, the days will go faster & driving time will seem like it flew by. Convoys are fun & all are welcome.
I believe there is more Vic crew to come, but being a big one, it is taking time to plan & confirm attendance.

The biggest Thankx in advance for the massive amount of time you have & will put into this, for the people of PP.

2017 Pradopoint GTG - not to be missed.

                      Cheers,

                      ####.

I agree, we're all looking forward to having the experienced ones showing us the best spots to visit. As for us, we're similar to ####. Scooting up as quickly as possible so we're fresh for the start and then touring our way home for the end. We're planning to come back down the Tanami, do a few days around Uluru and then come back through the Simpson. I tried convincing a few other SE-QLDers to come but most can't get the time to get all the way to the GTG. A couple though were already planning a Simpson trip so are now thinking about whether they can pick us up on the way back through and do the Simpson with us. It's looking like an awesome trip for us.

                        • We have used the past GTG's as our excuse to go on a holiday and it has been excellent to have others show us around and also catch up with others from on here. The social aspect is also a great thing and to be able to experience these places with others makes the whole event very worth the effort to get there.

Yes I will be travelling 4479km to get to the start and will be doing that at a quick pace, but it will be well worth the effort once we arrive that is for sure.

                          • Hi Folks

Got back from the Kimberley's 3 weeks ago and it was absolutely awesome, as a matter of fact the trip motto became "it just gets Awesomer and Awesomer". All up Brisvegas to Brisvegas it was 11'167ks done in 4 weeks.

Our itinery was Brisvegas to Kununurra on bitumen with stops at Augathella, Walkabout Ck Hotel, Barkly Homestead, Katherine ( 2nights don't miss the dawn cruise up the gorge). We joined the Drive4Life charity event in Kununurra and then went to Broome via the Great Nthn Highway with lots of stops including the Bungle Bungles (the helicopter flight is a must do), Fitzroy Crossing, Halls Ck, Tunnel Ck, Windjana Gorge, Broome 3 days.

Then back to Kununurra via the Gibb River Rd, with stops at Drysdale River, Silent Grove (Bells Gorge), El Questro 2 nights, Lake Argyle. All in al 13 days in the Kimberley's and an absolutely fantastic place.

For fun we came back via Halls Ck, Wolfe Ck Crater, stopped at Billiluna to visit friends, overnighted at Renahan Bore on the Tanami, through Alice Srings to the Plenty Hgwy stayed at Gemtree Caravan Park did some fossicking, Tobermorey Station, Bedourie, Quilpie, Charleville, Dalby and then home, 8 days all up with plenty of sightseeing.

Hope this helps with some planning, we will be going back to WA and the Kimberley's but next time will be for 6 months at least (all you Sandgropers can expect a Richo visit), probably after we visit Tassie again for 3 months at least (thanks Tassie Pradopointers for a great time).

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

The quickest way to Kunnurra from Sydney is via Longreach. It might be worth seeing if any NSW lot want to join up for a convoy and then come back via the Tanami with you?

Before the UK trip came up, we were planning Sydney >Winton, Alice> then Plenty Highway, Tanami up to Bungle Bungles then Kununurra. The then back via Karijini > GCR, Uluru, Oodnadatta, Broken Hill, Sydney - that would also work for a QLD trip.
