  • OEM droop on factory 120 coils

    Hey all,

Could anyone who measured droop on their factory coils on their 120 please post up some figures?

I'd also like to see the original ride height measurements as well, so typical bottom rim to guard for ride height and bottom rim to guard at full droop.

    Thanks everyone!

When people quote maintaining 60mm droop, they are talking about droop at the wheel?

Yep, so bottom of rim to arch with wheels off the ground minus bottom of rim to arch with wheels on the ground equals droop.

        Hey,

        See the photo in this thread for how to measure your droop;

I hope this is of some assistance with your data gathering. No rear coils, but the max down travel depends on shock length anyway until about 615mm, then the swaybars bind.

These measurements were taken with original suspension and TEMS shocks, which have the same extended length as Toyota OEM shocks of 575mm:

At the rear I fitted Lovells 64612489 rear shocks with 7mm spacers on the sway bar mounts. The rear air springs were raised with 14mm spacers under the height sensor brackets.

            Front
            735mm static before, 800mm after
845mm maximum extension before, 890mm after
110mm downward travel before, 90mm after

            Rear
            780mm static before, 825mm after
            745mm Lo before, 790mm after
            815mm Hi before, 860mm after
880mm maximum extension before, 930mm after
100mm downward travel @ Normal before, 105mm after
65mm downward travel @ Hi before, 70mm after

Happy with the result for now, rides more comfortably than before and also handles better.

Surely there are others that measured their suspension before turfing out the standard shocks?

                        Hey all,

After getting a few different figures for OEM droop, the average is around 95mm.

Below is a plot showing strut length vs bottom rim to guard for a few different setups.

You can get the droop by taking the difference of the limits on the x-axis, eg., 845-750 = 95mm for the red line, which is the OEM geometry. You can also get the amount of strut travel from the limits on the y-axis.

There is quite a big difference in what the strut length is at ride height, which will depend on the coil rate, coil free length, and the coil seat position.
