  • Re: 2DIN Android multifunction Radio GPS & OBD2 - Toyota compatible ??

    Hello all,

Spotted this "XTRONS Pro" 2 DIN on fleabay claims to integrate with Toyota Prado 1996-2009.
Built-in GPS to take Google maps of Android Playstore (HEMA Maps??) all the other bells & whistles.
Also mentions reversing camera integrates with reverse selection & OBD2 data via optional OBD2 plug unit.

Just wondering how much ECU data will be compatible?

    Anyone tried this unit?

I just bought one the other day. I'll show you when it's installed. The OBD2 already arrived and works amazingly. Heaps of live info and graphs, including boost.

      Andy,

Great look forward to your report looks like these Android Apps are good: Torque Pro (with TorqueScan plug-in), OBD Doctor Pro & OBD Link 2.0 all have good features. maybe not the complete sweet of TechStream, but less hassles & work with all Android phones & tablets.

BTW I also found this ideal unit for my 2009 GXL with Climate Air:
      https://www.carjoying.com/quad-core-...ch-double.html

Dimensions are correct but not sure if mine has the two piece center console. This is Quad core Kit Kat, retains a single slot DVD, plus 32Gb Micro SD for data, 8Gb SD for GPS maps & front mic jack & USB. Also pairs with Steer wheel buttons. Most other types for Prado have 6in displays at lower res.

But for our real time OBD2 data & GPS maps, the 7 inch HD 1024 x 600 would be great! This has all the usual phone / net bling stuff as well See this model at www.Joying.com.au AUD 409!

Just had a close look at my center console facia, definitely a one piece, so the older Head Unit is no go. This later model Joying AU-JQ-130 at AUD299 would be better for me:

Interesting you to post that one. The Prado specific one. That was my original purchase, from car-dvd-gps on eBay. Three weeks after purchase, he still hadn't sent it. Excuses after excuses (HK electronics fair, Tomb Sweeping Holiday), so I demanded a refund, which he honoured. (USD fluctuation actually made it come back to my account with an extra $9, so party hard).

Believe it or not, I spoke to carjoying about the same model, the Prado specific one that sits flush in the dash with the 1024x600px screen and quad core processor. They tell me "trust us, we assure you this will not fit your car". I own the 2008 Prado 120 Diesel GXL, and apparently that doesn't fit? I assume they're trying to push existing stock in place of what they don't currently have on the floor, but yeah. Curious.

My head unit should be here within the next 2 weeks, so when I install, I'll take heaps of photos and get a thread going. I've already got all the rooftop and hema maps for oziexplorer running for Androzic, so should be a mean setup when it's in!

            Redhilux & Adv Andy,
            Thanks for the responses.

Correct the Joying 120 Prado unit with complete facia, would only work if you cut the trim panel above the climate air controls. Doing this would make the mod to install a new MFD non-reversable!

Hence my preference would be the Carjoing Au-JY-UQ130 with android 4.4.1 retains a hardware power/volume switch - this is listed at Carjoying Aus warehouse: https://www.carjoying.com/au. A later model JY-UL-135 is updated to Android 5.1.1 but their website forum indicates Android OS 5 implementation is buggy ATM - updates & some hard fixes reqd.

I also note they plan to update DDR3 memory to 2Gb as some users run out of install space for apps. I guess that may be "coming real soon"!

Some other brands in China are marketing similar Android models with quite different software features, but all seem to be built on similar hardware platforms & screen specs.

I will be interested in any reports you may have on progress.

IF! they work & display our OBD2 data real time on multi pages, plus run GPS Sat NAV software etc. - these with be great for D4D drivers.

I just finished putting a generic double din one in. Appears to work well apart from not wanting to connect to my bluetooth obd2 interface

Only issue so far is the lowest volume on the head unit, i.e. one step above mute is too loud, at least stationary with the engine off. Might be different story with tyre noise, wind noise and the whirring of the old 1KZ

                  Hello ejukated,

Have you tried one of these:
                  http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2015-KW90...-/151517581716

Appears to be "like" the genuine OBDLink LX, which does not pair until you press the lower LH button - lights show status.

Regarding volume I have seen comments that the volume knob is very sensitive whatever the poster was trying to say?

Otherwise try earmuffs btw always loved my 1KZ but know what you mean.

BTW which MFD did you install?

Nah, the one I have is a V-LINK model. I was contemplating getting a USB one as the headunit may be able to connect using one of the onboard USBs. I think the issue is the bluetooth unit normally links by asking the Android device for a PIN, which you enter then it links. I noticed when linking my iphone, it sends a PIN request to the iphone so the opposite way around. If thats the only way the Headuit will pair then I have a problem as theres no way to put a PIN in via the OBD interface... I tried setting the default pin of the headunit to the pin of the interface in the hope it would auto link but no such luck...

My interface has a button in the middle with a power symbol, maybe i need to use some combination of pressing it and linking.

The knob isnt sensitive, its just that Volume level "1" is too loud (for my ears anyway) when stationary and you want to have background music and have a conversation. I'm sure there would be a firmware hack to fix this. For the moment its a minor annoyance.

I have an Eonon G2110F unit. the res is 800x600 but you dont really notice on a screen that size. There are Joying brands for the similar price that have higher res BTW

                      Toyota Prado120 GPS Update

I enquired with Toyota about updating my GPS maps as they are original 2006 version on their unit, they said it would cost me $450 for updated SD Card!
Now looking at generic alternatives and came across this DIG_OPTIONS unit on Ebay, has anyone got this unit as I would appreciate their feedback, all reviews I found are for the older unit claiming bugs and slow screen refresh and loading.
There upgraded Premium Unit looks very good especially with offroad mapping included.

                        Joying & Pumpkin 2DIN 7" Android 1024x600 HD ebay.au - Hema maps via app

Understand there are risks with Chinese outlets, but the cost diff is significant.

Joying & Pumpkin have good ebay websites & Joying has an active forum. I suggest Joying as their website has a good compatibility info. Carjoying list an AUS wherehouse & respond to inquiries.

I note on their forum they are still having difficulties implementing Android 5.1.1 Lollypop in current units. As our Galaxy S5 Mobs are now updated to Android Lollypop, I am waiting for the hardware compatibility issuses to be resolved! Joying are also planning to upgrade internal DDR3 from 1Gb to 2Gb & ROM to 32Gb customers complain about running out of app space - may be significant for GPS mapping.

If you are happy with Android 4.4 KitKat then these ebay.au 2DIN Head Units have same specs as the Joying 7" 1024x600 HD I am interested in fitting. Quote " support 3D Maps Voice Guidance with on & off line navi app support.

You should have no probs with Hema maps as they are in both Apple & Android, my neighbour uses Hema on a ipad. But best OBD2 aps seem to be on Android.

Older Android 4.4 models check compatibility for your Prado:

Im very interested in upgrading my 120 stereo myself. I was going to get a xtrons, but these joying ones look pretty good. do those ones you linked brundah fit in the toyota dash? i was under the impression the prado dash was not a standard double din?

I have actually been looking at the same sort of headunit, except the one with the 10.1" tablet screen mounted onto the double din unit. Looks awesome:
                            http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Android-4...sAAOSw3mpXHxmG

Just a little hesitant on what the quality of the unit will be like and also the sound quality.

                              2DIN Head Units - 10 inch - 16:9 - intergated 7 inch HD - interfaces etc

Yes exact compatibility is a vague subject, there is an older 2DIN head unit with integrated facia to completely replace OEM unit exactly. It also depends on which is your production model Prado (surround trims vary).

What can be misleading is not so much the 2DIN module (metal box), but the Head Unit Face dimensions & corner shapes, will this interface with the Prado plastic facia? Some installers have had to "trim" the plastic surround.

Again Joying (maybe Pumpkin & others) manufacturers can confirm if their particular model 2DIN unit will fit the facia surround. They ask for detail photos.

Youtube videos show the 10.1 2DIN units installed, note these larger displays are actually a hinged to the 2DIN (metal box - not integral). So may make access more difficult to Aircon controls etc.

IMHO if your main purpose is off road maps & want big 10 inch display, then using iPad / Android tablets may be a better option - use an ebay CD insert mount for these tablets. Also consider 8/9 inch 16:9 Tablet?

If you favor 2DIN 7 inch HD integrated display for ALL multi-functions including OBD2 diagnostics (TorquePro etc), then this format is the best option available.

Yes these are all Chinese assembled units & audio has been reported as "average" with poor manual volume sensitivity. Note look for units that have integrated wiring & software to interface with analog steering wheel controls.

Also reports of "updated" Android 5 OS units that are "buggy" due use of patch boards. Maybe wait for models with new Android 5 main boards.

Note some later 2DIN units include auto display Reversing camera - when reverse gear selected.

If you have bit the bullet - either failed or successful - share your experiences. Note not all OBD2 Bluetooth modules have a pairing button that actually works! There are also wireless OBD2 moduls - pick your flavour
