I had the 3 litre Prado 5 Speed auto, traded up to a New Prado Kakadu. Fuel economy is 10 litres per hundred or more, the previous Prado i had would regularly get 7.5 to 8 litres per hundred. All the hype from Toyota was that the new one is more economical. Other then the fuel economy the car is great. Anyone else have figures on the new 2.8?. The excess usage is the DPF crap, i know this but am surprised that Toyota claimed it to be more economical...lol. Also every now and then i get a strong burning rubber smell from the back driver side tyre, it has been checked out by the dealer twice now and they can't find anything and put it down to a DPF burn...

I have 2 month old 2.8 with 4500ks on the clock now. You just need to give it some time. I was averaging 11.5 new now im down to 9.5 avg on the dash computer. I have a vx with the fuel economy tracker per minute and i get a an avg of 7.5 on a flat hwy at 110kph. 9.5 is still pretty good considering it weighs 2.4 tonnes. The avg will probably come down a little further with more ks.
I too have the burning smell at the back. Was told by dealer its the dpf.

My December 2015 manual 2.8 has the long term average consumption on 9.0 litres/100Km. The car has just had it's 10,000 Km service and the average fuel use was reset two full tanks ago. Driving since has been a mixture of city and some towing. I am quite pleased with this, especially as it appears to be getting better.
Much more concerned about the suspected sh1t forming in the inlet manifold from the EGR valve which I have been told by a Toyota mechanic forms after very low K's but that is a subject for another thread.

I agree with Cuda: my re-fill calculation and computer reading on the 2.8 are very close. I will be doing some long runs soon (i.e. get into 6th gear) and hope to get under 10 or even under 9. PS: I am running my (standard) tyres at 35 PSI and have no extra car weight other than a tow bar and the tank having been about 75% full on average.
[during a UK fuel shortage many years ago I had to drive especially gently in a petrol car and my economy improved 25% !]
