Another option might be to use those channel nuts with a thin strip of flat bar on top of the nut to spread the load (ie. 1mm thick). Drill a bolt hole, and screw it all together before you slide it into the slot.

Also worth noting that Unistrut are one of the more expensive brands as MacroP inferred. Burndy or Ezystrut also tend to be cheaper than Unistrut. Just double check the width before purchasing

I have just used galv bolts, flats and Spring washers with eyes. (Purchased from Bunnings). A bit of a pain to hold the nut from spinning but seriously how often does one need to move them.

Are cambuckle straps capable of being sufficiently tightened to prevent a load moving while off road (I use them in the car to hold the fridge, but if they come loos the fridge wont be left on the side of a track...). Its one of my greatest fears - losing my load. Saw a car lose a mattress on the Hume near Cooper Street in Melbourne - straight unteer the wheels of a B-Double. It kind of has me spooked haha.

If the straps gets wet, the strap can slip in the cambuckle. I only use cambuckle straps for light items (camping chairs). I use ratchet straps for large heavy items as I have more confidence with them.

I have recently discovered endless ratchet straps. These would be better for general purpose strapping and bundling.

Due to the thin-ness of the planks, I would not recommend using a regular nut in the channel for tying down heavy items with a ratchet strap. There is a good reason why the extra long channel nuts are sold by Rhino and specifically recommended in the installation instructions of the Pioneer Platform.

I like the look of those endless straps. Are the planks strong enough to withstand them being tightened around them?
I might invest in a few.

Where possible, I strap under the crossbars in between the planks.

Quality of the handles is very good. The rubberised grip feels very nice. The strap is like any other normal strap. I have seen thinner strap material from the like of the Grunt brand from Bunnings.

                        Here are some closeup pics.

The flat washers have a larger surface area of the Rhino product so the load is actually spread wider. Each to their own.

Are the washers installed in the channel or above it?
