  • Bilstein and kings lift kit

Im getting a lift fitted next Monday was really hoping that I could get any recommendations if what i have is going to be right if not what should i change to.
So bit of vehicle report is a 150 2015 2.8l gxl, arb deluxe steel bar, no winch yet but will get one shortly, dual batterys, pioneer platform. Rear mostly carrier just the kids to school but when camping have fridge in rear, camping gear and/or camper trailer.
What I have been recommended is -
    BE5-A712
    24-238830
    KTFR-101HD
    KTRR-102
Also will be running airbags in rear to help with load when away, would like to keep it nice to drive for the wife.
    Thanks Dan
Arb colour code deluxe bar, safari snorkel, lightforce venom HID's, GME uhf remote face, redarc tow pro, redarc bcdc 1240, pioneer platform, 40" curved light bar, dual battery, 3" SS exhaust, EGR mod, trans cooler upgrade, provent catch can, scangauge 2, diesel care secondary fuel filter, Tin's bash plates and actuator gaurd, 2in Bilstien and kings lift,

I have medium OME all round and air bags in the back. The ride is great when loaded but a bit harsh when empty. When I get the 150 in the next month or so I will go for standard rate in the rear [ with air bags] and the appropriate front springs for the gear up the front.

Thanks yeah thats what im thinking to.
When I ordered the above was told the front springs are not the heaviest ones available but to keep height right they would use a higher circlip position and would give better ride.
Also have been reading/following other suspension threads about the drop and lift height can anyone confirm the above ones are ok for a 150.

I just ordered same, but with the H spring, not the HD. Rated at 660in/lb, same as medium spring; but 10mm taller. I have asked for bottom circlip position, if I have any sagging issues, with move up one position to middle. Did this last time with 120, just went up when we fitted my winch to the front.

I got exactly this spring setup in my 120 D4D.
          KTFR-101HD
          KTRR-102
          Bilstein shocks.
          Airbags.

I have an ARB winch bar and a winch on the front as well as dual batteries, Kaymar rear bar.
It's done ~5,000 k's since the lift and airbags. I haven't done any towing, so can't comment on that aspect (haven't had to inflate use the airbags yet) but have done a few camping trips with the car fully packed. The suspension (with the winch) works well and isn't too firm at all. As expected it has a lot more travel than stock.

I haven't bothered doing measurements on the difference but it's sitting roughly 50mm higher than it was.

              Hey Hally,

The 712/24-238830 combination is a bit short travel wise.

If you want more articulation, you could consider a 24-238762/24-217897 combination.

As you're in Brisbane, I'd give John at Zordos a call, he will give you great advice!

                Thanks heaps Mark
I did give John a call last week he offers quadrant shocks so to a suspension noob like me its hard to cross part numbers and reference lenghts. Would the same springs be ok with the longer shocks.

                  Hey Hally,

The King coils are a bit on the short side in free length, so they're not really suitable for the coil bucket separation on the longer open length rear shocks out in the 610-620mm range, requiring longer than 410mm free length. Dobinsons have a wider selection of free heights and have taller linear coils more suitable for the rear geometry.

                  Take a look at the rear geometry here;

                  http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ado-120-series

                  ...and have a squiz at the suspension database;

                  http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...nsion-Database

The dimensions for the 24-217897 are not correct in the database, this rear Bilstein shock is really 370-610mm.

Needs to be HD for the 150 to start off with.

I've ordered same rated spring as I currently have, except 10mm taller. The current height is fine with zero tyre wear issues. So no HD needed for me. Once I got a winch, I'll change spring retainer height to compensate. If I need heavier, I can chuck them in if/when required

                          Hey Matt,

What spring rate coils do you have in at the moment? The 150 OEM coil is 748lb/in, which is why the HD version of the King is recommended, as it is 800lb/in.

If the coil you're running at the moment is KTFR-101 rated at 660lb/in, how do you find the 150 front end with a softer rated coil than the OEM coil? Any nose diving under brakes or anything like that to suggest 660lb/in isn't stiff enough?

The OEM 150 coil is very short at 340mm, and the high coil rate of 748lb/in suggests that the front ride height is achieved more with spring rate than free height.

It'd be interesting to have your "ride quality" feedback about running softer taller coils in the 150 front end!

ride in my truck is great. Never had any diving issues, just rubbish tough dog shock issues. The TD have woeful rebound rates and it's getting crazy. I know of a few 150 owners with the medium 660 in/lb springs that are more than happy. The Kings I have ordered are the heavy rating (more like taller medium I reckon) and the ones below the HD. I'm extremely concerned about the inner guard crack issue, hence I stay with the lighter rating spring. As stated, they cost bugger all and I'm happy to swap them if required in the future.

That's interesting. What is your front height now (or when installed) running the KTFR-101?
