I bought a non-remote head Uniden UHF (I did not read about the advantages of the remote head before purchasing). No matter. I think I will mount under the ashtray and to the left, or by the passengers right knee. I have a brake controller in the ashtray.
I think I am going to hard wire to the main battery, and turn off when not in use. I am going to screw my antenna to my bull bar as it has a mounting spot. Should I anticipate problems with a bullbar antenna mount on the Prado (the bar seems to vibrate alot!)? I will poke the antenna wire and power through the (legendary) passenger side firewall grommet. I pulled some fat wires through this to charge my trailer batteries.
How do people get the antenna wire and power from there to behind the centre dash. I have seen one install where the antenna came up through the leftmost of the switch blanks beside the lower ciggy lighter port. That sort of appeals, but I want to know if I can get behind this panel more easily - or do I have to pull the whole centre dash off. I have googled around (too much) and not seen any solution apart from full removal (which I am a bit chicken to do). Can anyone point to a thread which has some pointers/instructions on an easier access route, or the best set of dash removal notes if I have to man-up and do that.
Much appreciated!
