  • Central locking kit?

    Hi all,
My partner has joined the 90 series club and bought herself a 96-02 1kzte 3.0diessl RZ model, the three door version. She's wanting a key fob on her key ring that will open the doors and boot. Don't want an alarm.
Has anyone bought a kit and installed please? Would be great to hear from you about what kit you decided on and how easy it was to install? Is it a diy job? Are the eBay kits any good? Or somewhere else?
    Cheers for any help...

There are plenty of good kits out there. Some cheaper than others some offering more functionality. Essentially she is after keyless entry. As a question, does the car have central locking already? Is there a switch on the door that will lock and unlock all three doors? Does unlocking the drivers door with the key unlock the two remaining doors? This changes dramatically the kit you are after.

If the car has no locking at all then you need a keyless entry kit with actuators/solenoids. If the car has a switch inside that does all three... then you just need a keyless entry kit. If it has no switch but using the key unlocks all three then you need a keyless entry kit with at least one actuator or purchase the actuator seperately.

      Are you installing it yourself?

Hey ranj. Thx for replying (I was hoping you would as I read your electrical posts on here often ). The answer is yes, it has the switch of the drivers door which opens/locks all doors and yes, the key in the drivers door also opens/closes everything.

Yeah, I plan to install myself, can't be that hard, can it?

Given that central locking is already in and all the doors have a motor. Life just got really easy for you lol. Without trying to boast too much... If I dont hook up then indicator flash, this is a 15 minute job in the workshop. If I hook up the indicators... 17 minutes lol.

Now, there is plenty of places to get your wiring but I like to do it all behind the fuse panel because all 6 (including indicators)required wires are present. Another easy place to get most of them is behind the centre console. Power from the radio, indicators from the hazard switch and then two wires over to the drivers kick panel for lock and unlock. I'll have to double check wire colors but you need...

          Constant power
          Ground
          Left indicator
          Right indicator
          Unlock wire
          Lock wire.

          Tools required:
          #2 Philips screwdriver
10mm socket and short extension piece
          Cable ties
And depending on your method of attaching wires...
          Crimpers, male spades and T-Connects
          Or
          Soldering iron
          Solder
          Electrical tape

There are two main types of keyless entry units. One has two simple negative pulse output wires for lock and unlock. This system is designed to drive a pair of relays or existing central locking systems. This type is perfectly fine for your requirements. The other type has onboard relays designed to be able to drive the actuators directly but can also be used for existing central locking.

Shoping on ebay will find stuff for under $20.

Awesome. Thank you. When you say "fuse panel" you're talking about the panel drivers side where my knee cap is?

Meanwhile, I'm on eBay...could I trouble you to recommend a decent "make" for these kits. All I'm seeing is the same stuff I can get on Aliexpress. I need a "decent" (reliable) kit, as this is going into the missus vehicle and, if it fuks itself up, well you know how it would be!

            I've found these so far:

Hi Ranj. Just wanted to say thank you very much. It's in and working! Went in to the white block on the footwell doorwell area for the lock/unlock wires and picked up the indicators behind the integration relay.

What the instructions DIDNT say is that once you've finished the remote learning process for the key fobs you have to take it OUT of standby mode! Took me most of today to work that out, arrgh!

Glad it worked out for you mate. I can usually find everything I need in the IR block.

Hi! Looking for easiest way to get constant power behind fuse panel. Where to look?
Already find out colours on other thread (white/red, white/blue)
