  • Factory 150 Series Aero Roof Rack (2 Bar Set) - Roof Rail Type

    Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone know if the factory "Aero Roof Rack (2 Bar Set) - Roof Rail Type" are unique to Toyota or are they compatible with one of the other main manufactures such as Thule, Rola, Pro-Rack? See http://www3.toyota.com.au/prado/accessories

The reason for my asking, is that in the future I would like to know what accessories might be available to me that are not sold by Toyota. For example, Toyota only offer one bike carrier and Thule have 4 different types. Can I opt for a Thule or some other brand?

Additionally, and to a lesser priority if anyone knows what time/effort is required to install/remove these roof racks? I would only use these on holidays or day trips so all things given it might be a bonus if they can be only fitted as needed.

    Cheers!

Thanks a heap for the prompt answer. Plenty of options for after market accessories there then! Cheers.

I have a roof pod (Rhino), ski racks and bike rack (both Thule). All of them attach easily to the factory aero bars. One problem that I have recently encountered is the lack of width across the roof. This is exacerbated by the mountings curving inwards. In practice, it means I can only carry the roof pod by itself, or perhaps with the bike rack, but being unable to open it without taking the bike off. If I had my time again I would get roof bars that extend beyond the mounts.

I leave the 'feet' permanently attached to the car and it's a simple Allen key (specialised one supplied with the racks) to fit the racks when I need them. There is about 2-3cm height increase with the feet attached from memory. It's roughly double if you leave the bars up there as well. It is a 5 minute job to reattach the bars each time.
