Best of luck with your dealer!
My GXL was manufactured in Sept 15, I took delivery in Dec 15. The maps are 2013, and as mentioned before with boring regularity did not include an estate built 3 years previously (to December 2015)
I am pretty sure that there has been an update since then as I have seen a 2014 map in a 2016 vehicle but I am also fairly sure this is the "latest" so this is what I expect every new vehicle to be fitted with at present.

Yep, my new Kakadu has 2014 Q4 maps in it, hopefully some newer ones come out soon, then I'll see what the Dealer / Toyota Aus can do, bit ridiculous for an $86k car.

        • hey guys, it probably doesnt help but i went after market head unit for this very problem, my unit looks bog standard factory but i can download any maps i want and have just got the latest igo maps which are august 2016, so it seems strange that a big global company cant also get the latest maps on their units....

          • Just had a call from "Toyota Guest Experience". Was fairly unproductive, I stated 2 main grievances were 2013 maps in a 2016 purchase and having to pay for updates (and that in Europe they get free updates). His response was Europe is a separate business, so I stated hardware is the same and if map provider is the same, then it comes down to Toyota Australia business model.

Guy "noted my issues but said that there was nothing they can do for me at this time but this is the sort of feedback they need to target their future products".

            Oh what a feeling.......

            • I stated my concern with the lack of map updates in my recent service online feedback. Mine is Q4 2104 maps on a Jan 2016 build / March 2016 delivery.
I think the biggest argument is that we, as customers, are not happy. All their 'business model' stuff means nothing if the customer is not happy. Obviously Toyota Europe are more tuned in to their customers and market expectations.
The annoying thing is that this could be easily solved within Australia - it's not like we are asking for a plug-in hybrid 10 cylinder 6 wheel drive open topped Prado in pink.
I have also said 'yes' to joining in with any Toyota Focus Groups (if they exist) - now that would be fun! If I get invited I'll suggest several of us join in!

              • Yes TMCA could easily solve the issue but they must think they can sell cars on the back of Toyota's reputation without having to worry about such things as current navigation software. Do they think the average Australian customer will not notice?
Anyway it is three weeks ago today that I received this from Mr Tony Cramb, I am still waiting patiently for a response from him or the "guest" experience:
                John,

                Thanks for your email.

Please leave it with me and we will be back in contact shortly.

                • There are other Toyota brands forums (not just Prado) with the same issue. It is a problem Toyota seems to have across its product range ...

Here is a sample from 86 forum:

                  http://www.86forums.com.au/index.php...s-out-of-date/

On this site seems "nicktorious" had some luck after officially complaining in writing and referencing consumer affairs?

They need to get some fresh blood into their marketing team, best if they import some from one of their European businesses??!!

                  • It is interesting to observe that in car systems (audio, nav, USB, phone connection, messaging etc) are becoming a key differentiation point in the market. It used to be things like performance, comfort, safety, economy etc. Hopefully Toyota wise up to this.

                      • This is copied from Toyota's European website toyota-mapupdates.eu/Home/WhyUpdate
I am not sure about the last line as it contradicts what I have previously been saying!!!! I am too busy to investigate further as getting ready to return to WA in the next few weeks:

The road network of Europe and Russia is changing approximately 15% every year. Therefore it is very important to have the latest available maps in your Toyota Navigation System. New bypasses are built, one-way systems suddenly appear, and all kinds of alterations are introduced to road layouts. All this can be very confusing if you aren’t armed with the most up-to-date route information.

Using Map-Updates will save you up to 12% of fuel. They will help you to cut down the kilometers you have to drive and the fuel you need to drive them. Consequently, by updating your maps you save money and reduce your carbon footprint. Driving with an outdated map could cost you more than updating would!

Map-Updates help you drive in confidence. With Map-Updates you can trust your Toyota navigation system to keep you on track.

You also save time. Map-Updates enable the best possible route calculation for the options ‘short’ and 'quick’. Without Map-Updates, you can waste the few extra minutes that would have enabled you to arrive on time.

Map-Updates provide better roadside options. You will know how to get there, and where to stop along the way. With fresh maps, you will be able to find the nearest hotel, a cash machine, golf course, or a choice of restaurants, whatever makes your travel more convenient, enjoyable and efficient.

Map-Updates enable safer driving. They make sure you have the last information when you need it the most: when the road is closed and you need a safe detour, when you need to find the closest fuel station, hospital or police station.

That is why it is important to have the latest available maps in your Toyota Navigation System. Get the latest city lane guidance information across all major European cities

Buy your new Map Update today and keep your navigation system operating at peak performance.

                        • So I followed up about my Prado and the maps, and the response was they come with up to date maps direct from the factory. Pick up is tomorrow, and that will be one of the first things I check!

                          • Ha ha,
welcome Jasmal to the land of Toyota marketing schpiel. Technically, that is correct.

I hope I am wrong, but I think you've been had. Given the cycle time for Toyota maps to Aust region is what, 2 - 3 years, and the 'current' product is 2+ years old, there are no newer maps to install. So yes, they will be current & up to date from a Toyota perspective, no doubt, but they will not be up do date by any objective standard.

Toyota needs a firm kick up the pants by several thousand customers.

                            • Hi,

Not wanting to be provocative but I have a 2016 Merc, a 2015 SS Commodore ute, two tom toms with life time map upgrades and a Garmin GPS and they are all out of date and all out of date differently if that makes sense - some roads on one and not on the other and visa versa! Even the Tom Toms are different and you would think they would at least have the same discrepancies. My 2014 GXL doesn't have GPS and at the time it couldn't be optioned so in my opinion, again not wanting to be provocative, I think it's really a first world problem and probably not worth 148 posts but then we are all different I guess
