Have you considered something with tracks, such as an M117 armoured personnel carrier? I have first hand experience that they smash over rocks, through trees, other cars and associated obstacles, etc with ease.

Are they made of "cast metal"?

The body is 13mm double skinned aluminium so it has strength but with flexibility. The tracks are steel with huge rubber pads inserted running on rubber banded aluminium wheels.

Up untill 10/03 they were shit weak.
Buy one of a Vehilcle 11//03 onwards, they are upgraded & no further problems.

Ok after further research the problem extends beyond 03 models. Apparently they are forged steel not cast so it makes them welderable . Solution is to box them in with flat bar , they are a l beam mount so boxing them in with flat bar will certainly strengthen them , so I wil be welding mine up soon
