  • 2000 Prado with a bad shudder when braking

I guys im new here and looking for a little advise.

So i brought my Prado a month ago and it has a really bad shudder under brakes and also a slight on over 100 Ks.
I have since change front pads and rotors and wheels balanced and aligned with no change

So then i took my Prado to 2 places now and got to different answers.
From the first a road worthy guy said it was the outer tie rod ends and the second a 4x4 specialist says na the rear rotors are warped and they need replacing because they are to bad to plan them.

then there is the guy i brought the car from a mechanic says those are not the cause but dose not no what is coursing the issue .

talk about making my head spin,
Should i start spending money on the to point above or look for someone else for another opinion and in a little short on cash im just not shore which way to go any advise will be muchly appreciated

Had same issues with mine when I got it
I replaced front and rear rotors and brake pads myself and no more issue
Not worth skiming the rotors just get new ones all up cost me $280 parts and me doing labour

So the original owner knew about the shuddering all along? Did he mention that before he sold it to you?

This would be the most likely cause from all the suggestions and should be reasonably easy for you to measure yourself and see if it is outside of the service parameters. If you jack up both rear wheels with the hand brake off and get someone turn a wheel while you check the opposite side you should get some idea if the rotor is warped. By the time a rotor is out of shape there will usually be significant wear. If you are not one with a bit of mechanical sympathy then get a mate to have a look. If you decide to replace rotors Repco and similar parts shops are a lot better than from Toyota on price.

I had the same issue, changing the rear rotors and pads fixed the issue.

This actually came after the rotors had been machined and new pads fitted. Turned out the pads (wish I could remember the brand) were faulty and actually destroyed the rotors. My mechanic said he had about half a dozen cars already with the issue and he was looking to take legal action against the brake pad company as they weren't taking any ownership of the problem. End result, free (for me) brand new rotors and brake pads.

                  Up date.
So I finely got round to changing my rear rotors last nite after work now the braking shudder is gone I'm so happy it worked.
Now Im just waiting for the director of finance to approve the funds for a wheel balance and alignment

Awesome work. Useless essential information. When trying to diagnose a brake shudder from front or rear, it's all about the feel. If the steering wheel vibrates more than the gear lever (even automatics) than suspecr your front brakes. Gear lever vibrates more than the wheel... suspect your rear. Not a definitive diagnoses but usually a good start.
