  • USB power wiring

    Hi,

Sorry if this is asked already, but I am unable to find an answer for this in the forum.

I purchased dual USB socket to install in the dash and trying to identify how to get this powered.

I purchased the following solid kit socket http://www.ebay.com/itm/221965454010

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Kams

You can either run it direct to the battery for constant power (what I'd recommend). Or tap into the 12v accessory circuit. Whatever you do make sure you fuse it.

This is his new model by the look of it, I have the previous one. The new pic shows it has the fuse double adaptor built in as well as the terminals on the ends of the wires. If not buy these off the same guy, Solid Kit: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3-x-Add-A...kAAOSwBahVFnPg.
Then run off the inside fuse box near the accelerator, its buried up under the bonnet release cables etc (real pain till you know where to look with a torch), just find a fuse that . Personally (being an old ex. car audio electronics tech) I would run it off something that is switched from ignition instead of constant power, unless running a second battery, then run a cable thru firewall to the 2nd batt, think I used a circuit in the fuse box inside called "power socket" or similar.
Hope this helps, give me a yell if you have more questions?

I used the sunroof fuse on mine (I baught the same kit), it's acc powered and does not feed anything in the GXL as there is no sunroof (tested with ammeter first), also you need a mini fuse as the 150's use micro fuses, the mini fuse adaptor will fit the micro but the micro will not fit the mini holder.

Leethal1 - I am fitting one of these plugs and went to use the Sunroof fuse but noticed that there is constant power at the fuse whereas you said yours is only powered when the accessories are on. I think I'll use the KDSS fuse as my 2010 model doesn't have that either and the fuse is powered only when the IGNITION is on.

I too am looking at installing a dual USB outlet in a switch blank on the lhs of the steering column. I want to use it to power a Hema unit as well as recharge phone/iPad. Have done all the research on PP at looked at product sites and have decided to go with the Lightforce product. Main reason is that most units seem to have blue lights on all the time. Lightforce kit is configured so that lights only come on when you turn headlights on. (Also because they are local SA and in my experience provide great service). Have worked out all the wire tap bizzo but the Lightforce unit has the blue wire which goes to the dash light circuit.

Appreciate advice as to how I connect to the dash light circuit. Have LF led light bar with genuine LF Prado 150 light switch that comes on with dash lights but was done by auto electrician, bit beyond me.
