Which isolators are you guys using? Something like a 200A redarc?

So Prado of Terror, if you had your time again would you still get a Runva? Self interest question as I need to decide on a replacement for my Aldi winch. The Aldi died because of water in the motor rusting out the brush holder and springs and can't be bothered fixing it given it only cost me $300 and lasted a few good years. I have been seduced by the promotion of Runva as being suitably water proofed but now the control box seems a week point? Is is still a good buy? Presumably good if you put some time into the control box to get it up to spec? Interested in what you would purchase if not Runva.

Ah ok thanks. I thought it was an electrically activated type, I have one here in as going to fit but prefer electric control from the cab. Doesn't look like many will handle the current though

If u get a Runva modify the control box , main problem I have with them is the issue when a warranty issue come up, the tried fobbing me off like I don't know my shit and tell me i hadn't done any maintenance. I had to send a lot of dirty emails to get anywhere.the winch itself seem to perform well but on the other hand I have only used it 3 times so I don't how long it will last.At the end of the day because of their flaw it has cost me a lot of $. Personally If I could turn back time I would have purchased something else that I haven't had problems with. I used to have a warn on my old rig 5 yrs and not one issue at all

I have a 250 amp solenoid which is what I power the winch off, on an off switch is in the cab, the red key type isolater switch that came in the box I threw in the bin, I had prob yrs ago with that type , I bit of grit got in there and I couldn't turn the thing on

Checked the C ute today and all fine. No rubbing, no fretting, no wear, no loose connections. No problems. Wonder if it is a batch problem.

Could you guys explain how you've installed these isolators please? I have a Runva 11000xp. No issues so far (I will check under the solenoid box now though thanks) but I just installed to the battery, no isolator. Installing an isolator sounds like a good idea after reading this thread. What isolator did you use please?

Thanks, and where are you mounting them? Are you just breaking in to the main feed to the winch, the big fat red wire, and putting in new terminals?

Yep cut the pos supply and crimp on two new lugs, isolator mounted on the side of the fuse box.

I'm using a welding cable Dinse style connector on the main positive to battery cable. Seems to work well as a quick connect/disconnect.

I felt that a switch that would take the current was too big and ungainly for the engine bay. Just a personal thing. However I do like the idea of the electronic activated isolator such as the blue sea remote battery switch: https://www.whitworths.com.au/main_i...tAbsolutePage=
I may put one in one day when ive got the spare $$
