  • Refixing Front flares

    G'day gents and gentesses,

My front flares are loose. It looks like a couple of clips have broken on the left and one on the right. I'm presuming I can get the clips from MrT and replace myself? Can anyone point me to some destructions, or give me a run down on how to take the flare off, and put it back on again? If I don't do it before Oodnadatta/Simpson, the old girl might be flashing some body by the end...

The whole top edge/outer edge is secured with double sided tape. The clips hold the inner lower section.I remember this from my snorkel instal. Trying to find the tape I ended up visiting a panel shop for the proper good stuff. Once the flare is clipped into place then you remove the protective coating of the tape. Need to leave a little tail sticking out before fitment. Apply pressure and remove tape gently. Tricky and fiddly.

      Cheers Bushie.

This is what I'm faced with. It looks like that double sided tape is now single sided. And a clip is missing. Also the front holes the clips sit in are worn/enlarged

r4ndl..I remember doing this a few years ago now. Mr T supplied me with all the clips and the double sided foamy stuff. From vague memory the clips can break off easily but if your replacing with new clips, just pull out with abandon. I've a complete set of those blue plastic trim removers which are really useful and well worth getting for loads of various jobs. I got mine from some out of the way car shop but I've never seen any in the big branded stores (not really looked hard).

From vague memory it was a bit fiddly but with the right tools and aptitude it's no biggie..and trust me I'm no mechanic!

If you want the part no's please ask, I may have them somewhere? I don't think I could have done the job as well as I did without the plastic trim removers. Can't help with the enlarged holes....filed down matchsticks so they can get a key to grip???

How did you go with this? I have a similar problem with the LHF flare & also the panel on the LHF door. They are so loose I can hear them rattle when I'm driving.
I found these clips on ebay, are they the right ones? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/50-Pcs-Gr...oAAOSwpzdWrMMy

I have just replaced all the front clips on the RHF Door, though this didnt stop the rattle 100%. I removed the door trim to remove the clips again from the inside, and then ran some Butyl Mastic around all the clips. Put it back on and the rattle has stopped.

Sorry r4ndl, I've destroyed the paper with the part number for those small round plastic clips 75397-35010???, I'm sure the parts dept have hundreds behind the counter though. With the trim removers you'll have it licked in no time!

My understanding is there is. Different clips on each panel. Not just one type. As when I ordered mine they asked what colour the clip was. This denotes what type it is.

Reviving old thread. As well as missing some clips, the front tab on my flare is cracked - hence why its loose. Shown in white - should be L shaped. Toyota parts has quoted me $563 for flare, clips and tape
Its been suggested (by a repairer place) that I could just tek screw through the remainder of the tab to fix the front. Thoughts on this? Main concerns I'm worried it'll shake out over corrugations? How would I seal the hole to stop it rusting - I find that if you remove tek screws they never hold properly again.

Or should I just stop being a tight arse and get the whole panel?

                        Refixing front flares :
Try using super glue and baking soda. There are lots of repairs using this method on you tube. I have had good results.
But practice on something else to get it right before repairing your flare.

                        Cheers

You might be onto something. Epoxy and fibre glass may do it.

Toyota can get you all the clips as you found out. I have refitted all mine, fortunately the flares were still mostly intact. Clips cost me quite a bit as I had to do all flares, so lots of clips! But it was required for roadworthy so had to do it.

Would it work if you replace all the clips except the one on the front tab? And use J-B Weld putty to fix the tab? Or replace with a metal L shape...
