Hey interesting one on the tow capacity on the GXL 150. 2500kg ???????? really ????????? well kind of but not really.
The toyota spec on the GXL 150 ( from toyota and Note GXL)
WEIGHTS & CAPACITIES
Weights Standard
- Kerb weight (kg) 2315
- Gross vehicle mass (kg) 2990
- Gross combination mass (kg) 5370
- Tare weight (kg) 2235
- Gross trailer weight braked (kg) 2500
- Gross trailer weight unbraked (kg) 75
So kerb weight is the weight from the factory and is out the window when you put bomb it up with fuel, accessories or put the family in. So my wife went to the weigh bridge and sort the actual weight. Wife (compact version), 2 kids, steel bull bar, ARB draws( with seats removed from rear cargo), fridge slide, 40 ltr engel, rhino pioneer flat rack, ARB shade canopy, max air 3 air compressor, full tanks of fuel and a Slim Dusty, Ringer from the top end CD, went in at 2750kg. So when I get in at 80 kg (all just muscle and six pack) we have the grand total of 160kg left to be legal in weight.
The GVM of the prado GXL 150 is 2990KG. so the max that can weigh all up, on the road is 2990kg.
Now the Gross Combination! This is the max that that prado and the tow weight can weigh when in the combo together.
So with my Prado at GVM we are left with a tow weight of 2380kg MAX!
Now in the case of a caravan. The Difference in the tare weight to the GVM/ max it can weigh on the road can be tricky. Its difference is the payload. If you got a solar panel and battery, if you put the gas bottles on it, if you got the bigger fridge, if you fill it up with water ( 1kg/Ltr) if you got any accessories at all put on her, then it weighs something. So I guess its like the bathroom scales. There is the weight you think you weigh and you want to weigh and then there is the truth.
oh and then there is the axle weights and also the tow ball down force weight to throw in there.
SO all these big vans and trailers roaring around waiting for an insurance company to look at it after an accident... good luck with that.

love to hear if you have a different version of what I can figure out.
