New Shocks/Suspension for 2005 Prado

Hi Everyone,

My mechanic has informed me today that I have damaged bottom strut bushes which would need replacing. He also informed me that my suspension/shocks are in a poor condition and he advises me to change them.

He recommended I go with EMF suspension kit. But before I make this decision what is everyone's opinion on EFS and OME? I have been reading around and another popular choice seems to be a Bilstein and King Spring combo. Also when lifting the Prado would I need any work done with the Caster Correction Bushes?

I use the car for daily commuting to work in the city and weekend fishing/camping trips. In future I am planning to do towing when I buy a boat. So what should I consider when selecting rear/front shocks/suspension?

I know I have asked many questions ahahah. I am a beginner in the 4WD world.

I'll get the easy one out of the way first, no castor correction bushes, so forget about that one.

After that it all just becomes opinions, I have been running with OME for around 7 years now and have found it to be excellent, can't comment on the others as I have not run them.

The main thing to consider is spring rates and getting them matched to your vehicle, that will depend on what weight of accessories you do or don't have, or expected constant loads. A set of air bags in the rear will help with the variation between loaded and not, and towing or not.

Deciding on the brand is probably your hardest choice, after that your supplier should be able to guide you as to spring rates etc.
