  • Oh OK, so even on the basic coverage I don't pay the basic excess if it's purely a breakdown/bogged recovery, just the $200 right?

Correct - if you're only claiming on the recovery cover you only pay the excess relevant to the recory benefit limit that you have on your policy.

If its the basic cover up to $1500, then only $200

Thanks for clarifying. Does a recovery only claim impact your rating or premiums (for example loss of no-claim bonus) at renewal time?

Oh and while I think about it does the same thing apply to personal items coverage? What I mean is that if my Waeco fridge gets pinched from my tent do I only pay the $500 excess and how would such a claim impact me at renewal time?

        • All good Fido - like all claims, yes it will play a factor.

          Cheers!

              Hi Fido,

You are correct mat,e the same principle applies for the contents. If there is no damage to the vehicle you only claim on the contents and pay the applicable excess.

              Cheers

So if it's stolen from your tent or your car but the vehicle itself is not damaged only the additional excess for that benefit applies, in this case $500. So if for example I have my fridge, my portable battery, and my solar panel pinched out of my tent or camper but then I'm only up for $500 but I can claim a mix of $1000 on any individual item right?

What happens if the items are in the vehicle and they smash a window or force open a door lock to get in? They steal the items but leave the vehicle itself there but damaged.

Bet you wish you'd never started responding to my questions right?

                • Correct - only the contents excess is applied. And yes, you claim up to 2k, with up to 1k on each item. You will obviously need to provide proof of purchase such as a receipt and lodge a police report also.

So if they damage your vehicle in the process of stealing your contents, you'd need to claim on the vehicle to have that damaged repaired (a choice you will make, or pay to repair yourself depending on your excess) then also pay the excess for the contents.

Hahaha - nah nah this is good!

                  • So many typos in my last post sorry but you seem to have grasped the gist of my question anyway, thanks for that.

If you don't mind me asking, what role do you play in the company? I ask because on so many forums complete randoms like to dish out advice, it's not always wise to rely on it.

                      • Well then I guess we can all rely on your advice to be accurate then :-)

Sorry Kalen a few more questions, Is it true that i need to list all mods to the vehicle at the time I take out the policy in order for them to be covered? If I later decide to add a set of drawers for example would they still be covered?

Also for the contents do I need to list everything that I'm likely to be carrying (tent, recovery gear, etc) at the time I take out the policy?

                          I should hope so :-)

The need for a list or not will be dependant on the value of your mods and accessories. We have certain thresholds after which the team on the phone or the web quoting system will note the need for photos and a detailed list of modifications with values. In general the majority of people don't need to go through that process though - it's more for the heavily modified trucks.

My advice with additional mods is where you feel it has added to the value of the modifications, give us a tingle and add it on - the whole idea is to make sure that if the worst were to happen you can get yourself back to where you started.

The contents piece will be more simple, unless you are trying to insure pieces worth over $1000 then you wont need to list them, just make sure you keep proof of ownership like receipts where possible.

                          • @ Club 4x4. I recently insured my Prado for $25000+ $30000 worth of accessories and was surprised that there was no request of a list of mods/accessories or proof of any of it. Does this sound correct.

Well my tent and my fridge are each worth over $1,000. The person I spoke to on the phone when taking out my policy yesterday did not advise me of this and I did ask if I had to list anything.

Also I was charged the $30 policy fee when I was assured it was being waived as my quote was generated prior to the policy change. I only noticed it when going over my insurance certificate after it was emailed to me. Might not seem like a biggie $$ wise but it is a bit annoying.

                              • I would be waiting for some real world reviews of the claims process, the company just to new for me to judge and taking out a policy
