My mistake, the prado is as matty1 said. I was thinking of the fortuner which has the button.

Yes, indeed, the "ECO" setting can be turned off..., like many other cars, and a green "eco" appears on the dash. My wife took her car for a drive the other day and she said, "gee, it was a bit gutless going up the range"...I asked her if she had left it in "eco" mode, and she said, "does it have an 'eco" setting does it?".......despite me showing it to her..

My mistake good folk...I took a new Fortuner GXL and also a new Prado GXL (both with the new 2.8l diesel engine)...and it was the Fortuner with the "eco" button on the center console...and it definitely made a difference...in "eco" mode the auto down shifts were delayed, and the car was somewhat gutless in comparison to having the 'eco' mode turned off....apologies, I got my vehicles mixed up good folk

So to clarify the "ECO" light is just an indicator to show you are driving frugally? There is no inhibiting of the engine fuel or anything and light on or off there is no management going on in the background of the engine/fuel system. So all the button does is stops the light from coming on on the dash?

Not sure about the 2.8 models but for my MY14 3L the ECO light comes on whenever the fuel consumption is below your "average" (from the trip meter display)

My wife drives our gxl 2.8l and I leave the eco mode turned on, tell her thats all the throttle she should be using 😊. Doesn't seam to work but.
