I test drove a new GXL Prado Diesel auto with the new 2.8 "GD" engine.....and no way is it a gutless dog...there is an "eco" setting which delays the auto gear changes and makes it les responsive. The test car I drove had 1,800 km on the odometer, so its still not run in...but its not a gutless dog, definitely...sure, its not a race car...but drive one for yourself, I can't see that it would be gutless compared to the new hilux...

Agreed. I have the 2.8 with 2500 on the clock and the motor is very impressive. Smooth, quiet, strong. And averaging under 10l per 100k's around Perth city

Is that right? I though the eco setting was just a light on the dash to encourage you to be light on the loud pedal??

The way it works in my 2014 is you turn it off when you take delivery and never speak of it again.

It's as retarded as the economy gauge in my missus outback, what's worse is they ditched the temperature gauge for it. Wtf.?

a noticeable difference between "eco" setting and not in the "eco" setting...You could describe the car as "gutless' when the 'eco" setting is active

Is the ECO settings able to be disabled? Does this come default on for both D4D and V6?

Yes, indeed, the "ECO" setting can be turned off..., like many other cars, and a green "eco" appears on the dash. My wife took her car for a drive the other day and she said, "gee, it was a bit gutless going up the range"...I asked her if she had left it in "eco" mode, and she said, "does it have an 'eco" setting does it?".......despite me showing it to her..

Eco is JUST A LIGHT, if you push the throttle too far it goes out, when you are driving efficiently it lights up. That's it, dumb and pointless. Turn it off with the ODO button and forget about it.

Thats exactly what I did, whats the point if it doesn't do S#@T.

I haven't seen what set up is in the 2.8 but I would suggest the owners of those read the manual as to the actual workings of because as has been said earlier, in the pre 2.8 its nothing but an indicator of "economic" throttle use!

In the new 2.8 'AUTO only' there is an eco button.

If you scroll through the trip computer it's in there mate, once you get to the "Eco on" just hold the button and its goes the "Eco off"

So to clarify the "ECO" light is just an indicator to show you are driving frugally? There is no inhibiting of the engine fuel or anything and light on or off there is no management going on in the background of the engine/fuel system. So all the button does is stops the light from coming on on the dash?

                                Thanks
