  • Recovery point with ARB bar

    So I've been looking at possible solutions to mounting a suitable front snatch point in conjunction with an ARB bar. This has been discussed quite a bit on PP in the past and it doesn't look like others have had much luck...

    Anyway, today I came across this:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TOYOTA-12...MAAOSwRLZT6er8

    Looks like it could be a winner!

    Anybody else seen this... Or better yet, tried it?!

    I like the idea of mounting higher up to a stronger area on the chassis... I'm going to ring the company this week and try to get some more info.

      A closer look at the pic shows stamp with WLL3250kg
      More info here...

      Interesting to see where they actually bolt and if it's up to the task...

      Can't help but note the emphasis on"tow" points in the description...

        Hey Ben,

        Those points in the ebay link only suit early model 120's, see here;

        http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...bull-bar/page3

        I run the custom made recovery points made by amts. They are much better than anything else in the market place, and amts has points for an arb or sovereign bar.

        For more info on amts points, see this thread;

        http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ecovery-points

        I would contact amts and he will sort you out!

              Hi Ben, I am in the same position as you. Would you mind posting back with your experience fitting these with an existing ARB bar already in place. Thanks in advance.

                ARB make a set to fit with their bar, a mate of mine had them fitted.
                Look very over engineered and they have to trim the side plates on the bar to fit.

                  Just go with the AMTS ones - super strong and super easy to fit.
                  They should get you out of trouble and you don't need to cut a thing.

                    Hi 123-jkjkjk, I bought a pair of AMTS recovery points and fitted them myself with the ARB bar in place. Not a difficult job - if a mechanically challenged numpty like me can swing it anyone can. They're very well made. See my rig uild up post 22 here:

                      Was pretty easy to fit and a good end result. Had a bit of trouble getting the wing back on at the end. Just had to slide the recovery point back a couple mm. Tight squeeze. Apart from that the trickiest bit is fishing out the old nut on a tail. Instructions are provided by AMTS. I actually found it easier to just unscrew the nut on a tail, let it drop, and then just drag it back with a piece of bent wire until I could grab it with needle nose pliers. It's all easy from there on in. I was lucky enough to have access to a hydraulic lift which made access a bit easier. Looks great when it's all done!

                        As of last month ARB told me they didn't do one for the 120 series... Was "under development" (just like the side steps)...

                          I used a magnet to fish out the old nut with wings, and then grabbed the wing with a pair of pointy nosed pliers.

                            FYI for anyone installing theses points. It's worth borrowing a torque wrench and torquing the bolts as specified by AMTS. I finally got around to doing this today. I thought I had them tight but I was waaaay off! 142Nm is a pretty serious crank on the wrench! I actually broke a cheapie Stanley 10mm socket (split it) and had to borrow a better quality set. They won't be coming loose in a hurry but I'm going to mark with a paint pen as well.

                            Cheers,

                              Yeah,

                              I broke a cheap Allen key with the wrench when I fitted mine. It was a bit disconcerting as it was under quite a lot of torque at the time.
