  • Satnav multimedia head unit upgrade

Hi all this is my first post on pradopoint ive just recently purchased my 120 D4D and want to upgrade the standard head unit to a satnave multimedia unit ive been looking at a couple of units namely aZenec and VMS purely because they both have intergrated 4WD off road topo maps intergrated into the units.
Features Im looking for (as is everyone i suppose)..
    Reliability
    Value for money
    Ease of instalation
    Ability to intergrate SWC
Upgradable maps (both street and topo)
    Bluetooth (both phone and music)
    Reverse camera
    Good product support
I realise there are alot of posts on this subject but some are dated so would like to hear what the latest options are and any coments on units installed and how good and user friendly they have found them to be.
I like the Zenec unit but it is more expensive than the VMS
    Cheers

    Hi Hilly,

upgraded mine for the second time and I choose Zenec, the first unit was great (from Ebay) until the GPS died and I could not get any support so I choose a quality unit and just love the Zenec and Hema mapping. The support is from another world, had some issues adding an amplifier so I contacted Zenec Australia, they sent me the cables I needed and no cost and all the information that I had to do to set it up. Compared to the old unit the Zenec is so easy to operate and so impressed with the Bluetooth for phone and streaming music. Only regret I have was not buying this first time.

    Cheers

For reliability, I'd stick with your mainstream brands. I'm happy to explain more if you want?

Hi Gibson thanks for your reply...thats my main concern with the ebay option i had one in my Nissan Patrol and had the same thing happen with the gps ive been doing a bit of research and the Zenec is by far a superior unit although a bit pricey ive been quoted $1600 from northfield car sound in Brisbane the VMS unit seems to be middle of the range but it gets mixed reviews some good some not so good... does everything the Zenec does but have thier own off road mapping instead of hema and an Australian distributor ... also looked at the Dig options one but only gives the demo ozexplorer maps and have to pay for licence to get full access Brash Distributions have exactly the same unit but with full licenced oz explorer both these units seem to be lower end of the scale at about $600 so reliability may be an issue but have a few features that the higer end units dont have in particular a built in hard drive so you can load up to 20 cds on it and full internet shame the higer end units dont have this but i suppose if they did they would be even more expensive starting to lean towards the Zenec
