chip my diesel performance chips?? feedback pls.

Hey all now looking to install a performance chip on my work ute (2014 dmax) but if all goes well also get one for our 150 prado. Now there are alot of chips on the market everyone telling you why theirs is the best and so forth but also a lot of cheap rubbish to steer well clear of!
Ive come across a company "chip my diesel Australia" that do performance chips, now this chip is $480 roughly. They have a lot of awesome feedback and I couldn't find a negative thing about them anywhere online my question to you is has anyone here heard of or have had any experience with these units? Feedback would be great on this. He also sells TDI chips. Both of which are uk products though there is no feed back or reviews on that particular unit.

A lot of people will tell you different things.
Our experience with 2 blown motors (separate cars), don't chip if you intend to do long distance towing.
If mainly local driving it may be different.

Search D4D detonation and have a read.

Hey Rusty thanks mate

Im assuming both motors were Toyotas? If you don't mind mate what chips were you using when they blew just for my knowledge. Most claim they all work inside all the factory specs but im just still so hesitant with installing one but definitely chasing more power/torque and don't know how to go about it. Don't want to sell the vehicle would rather just mod and keep driving it but want it to be done safe and reliable for years to come.

My father just installed one of those chips In his hilux purely for towing his 6m cruisecraft long distances. Hes actually heading to 1770 at xmas with the boat so that info would startle him a little. I just want to find out who does a completely reliable unit that gives the increases while being on complete control and having no failures.

I am not sure how they can claim to operate within factory specs when the chips are either increasing fuel rail pressure to admit more fuel or tweaking the injection duration to again add more fuel. There are probably a lot of people running chips without trouble but wow there are a lot running chips who have had a grenade.

I am happy to dyno tune an engine and narrow the conservative tune parameters but I would never contemplate an add on chip.

Not saying that all motors will fail with / without chips. Our motor was chipped at 40000, injectors replaced at 150000 and holed a piston at 200000 when in the middle of Kakadu, 250km NE of Katherine.
Brothers motor chipped from new 88000km and holed a piston 350km west of Katherine.

Seems like Katherine is a bogie town for us.

The chip will give you more power and torque and make for easier towing. It is the long distance of this that will be downfall. The injectors on the D4D, being a service item need to be replaced from time to time. Usually at 120000 or when the feedback values are excessive. The chip increases rail fuel pressure and causes the injector to fail earlier or when failing injects too much fuel and melts the piston.

Have a read and make your decision. I am happy for you to come over and i can show you the holed piston and how to run the techstream software to check the injector values.

There are other ways to help with towing such as torque converter lock over ride.

thanks rusty definitely gave me something to think about. Im not willing to sacrifice reliability for a bit more power and torque that's for sure. Geez 88kms isn't much to have an issue like a holed piston. All these performance chip mobs promise all these things but in reality you cannot trust them they are there to sell a product and make money I guess. Im sure for the short term there aren't that bad but in the long run will def cause some issues down the track when its least desired! Appreciate your help mate will go back to the drawing board and rethink a few things.

Mine was a Tunit and brothers was a Roo systems.
If you are doing long distances, towing or keeping the car long term, chip at you own peril. That's in my opinion.
The power gain was great, more torque and the auto would lockup earlier.
That chip cost a lot more than i would pay to do it again. I removed mine and sold it. Brothers went to the scrap bin.

The chip raises the rail pressure and when the injectors start to leak, and they will the piston will overheat and go out to lunch leaving you on the side of the road thinking gee if only i .................................................. ...........

Dear all,
I am from Spain and here is common to use Steimbauer chip with very good results. The problem with D4d engine are injectors not chips, this engine is not very powerful from factory, to have 200hp is not to much for our Toys

I asked my mechanic about installing a chip, hes a good and close friend. He just laughed at me, reckons waste of $$$ and a great way to kill yr donk quickly.

We just upgraded to free flowing exhaust for now (cheap option), bit more low end torque and more throaty burble if u care, and once exhaust is roooted will install larger diam pipes. Upgrade at yr own peril he says.
