  • Additional fuel filter .... Post or Pre ?

In light of recent events, I will now fit an additional fuel filter. So the question is, post or pre? Diesel Care seem keen on post as it can filter finer.

    Advantages of pre-filters are
    1. filters are cheaper so you change it more often
    2. last line of defence is Toyota's filter so this filter can be blamed if anything happens

Also, if fitted as a pre filter the Toyota pressure sensor (the one that went off and told you your filter was blocked) will still work correctly. If fitted as a post filter the sensor wouldn't pick up if something happened to that filter and it restricted flow, potentially causing damage to your fuel pump if you kept on driving.

        Hi All

This thread has started me thinking. I’ve had one of the Diesel Care 2 microns Post filter systems fitted on a 1KD engine for some time now. It’s one of the first mods I did and has given me peace of mind, till now!!!! Thoughts being that the second water trap after the factory trap and alarm would give me that extra buffer if the dash alarm goes off. And a finer filter than in the top of the injectors can’t be bad.

Does anyone know where the OEM filter pressure sensor is? I’ve had a look through the Toyota workshop manual, but it does not show any pressure sensor for the Injector pump feed. The filter diagram has a float switch on the base (water alarm!) and shows a heater on the top assembly. Now in the fuel system testing section (11-47) they test the fuel heater assembly by applying a vacuum to it? Can anyone shed some light on this testing procedure?

I’m now thinking of adding a fuel pressure gauge to the blanked hole on the output side of the Diesel Care head.

Also does anyone know what is the nominal feed pressure in the low pressure side of the fuel system?
