  • question radiator fan.

Hi guys I used to own the 2008 d4d prado and when I turned the car on the fan had different speeds.

I'm now the proud owner of a tx 2001 diesel auto. And I've noticed the fan seems to have no variable speed as the revs build so dose the fan regardless of temp etc. So after some time on the road it gets quite annoying as the fan is really loud.
Is this normal for the older prado? Both are clutch fans.
    Thanks guys David

      Thanks ####.
That's what I suspected. Hearing bad things about ebay parts not lasting is it worth it for the viscous fan hub? It's under $100 on ebay not sure how much from toyota.

You may find a previous owner has beefed up the fan hub...
The viscous hub is the same on 90/120s infact the water pump is too, i have one on my 90
I would probably be inclined to leave it

I called toyota for a new viscous hub. I was told that it cost $680 just for the part, I'm inclined to leave it as well now lol.
I did find a cheaper replacement from Davies craig for $250.
The only thing for me is that it's really noisey so after 30 min or so it's pretty unbearable.

you shouldn't need to replace it unless its really faulty, they are adjustable

I went to my mechanic he said it was seized, couldn't be adjusted anymore.

Changed the viscous hub, she runs like a dream now.
Much better fuel economy before on subtank I got 340km now I got 450km before I switched.
The best part is I can hear my self think you don't realise how incredibly loud it was with the fan at full speed.
