  • My sister had a pristine 2004 GXL V6, never ever been off road. Low km, a genuine Toorak Tractor. Took her nearly 18 mths to sell this year and got SFA for it. No one wants them. Also, for the record, towed a 10x5 tandem full of solid bricks (water level full around 500odd) from Melbourne to Daylesford. Was fairly close to the 2000kg trailer and MY14 3.0L limit I reckon. Pulled like a school boy! Cruise control set to 100kmh, dropped a kmh or two on some of the bigger hills but quickly recovered. I'd imagine the 2.8L would be even better with improved power and torque.

    • V6's don't sell coz the only re-purchaser of them is 20-25 yo's who want offroad grunt and cheaper to run around in...

      • Its funny all these comments V6 resale considering just normal dealer is offering 27k for a 09 VX Prado with 125k on the clock. Carsales also seems to indicate V6's are selling ok. Tag some and watch how long they take to sell with a decent price. Always the diesel vs petrol debate creates some interesting story and feedback. The sad story about diesel is that its a big polluter and European's are starting to take notice. Its great to see Diesel reduces the CO2 produced but the trade off is far worse. Heres a snippet from a recent article.

Diesels produce 15% less CO2 than petrol, but emit four times more nitrogen dioxide pollution (NO2) and 22 times more particulates - the tiny particles that penetrate the lungs, brain and heart.
As new research shows that diesel fumes are worse than expected for health, triggering cancers, heart attacks and the stunting of children’s growth, many politicians have admitted a major environmental mistake.

        Complete article http://www.theguardian.com/environme...alth-pollution

This might make you think twice about diesel vs petrol debate.

Trouble is, matter can neither be created nor destroyed. So change your fuel type from diesel to petrol to electric and the energy generation just moves elsewhere, the pollution still occurs, just somewhere else.

There is no silver bullet, all we can do is reduce the outputs as much as possible and compensate for them where we can.

Go plant a tree and enjoy your 450nm.

V6 is toxic come resale no matter how new or old. Even if it is more fun to drive. If want performance and 2+ Tonne towing, buy a V8 Commodore or Turbo Falcon. The shit resale is a no cost option on them too.
I just sold my 08 120GXL Petrol with 125,000 on it for 25k, sold in a flash. Me get not be worth as much as a Diesel but considering I bought it 18 months old in 09 for 45k, I am happy to loose 20k over 7 years. Never had an issue, not even a flat battery. Hence my have another Prado in the driveway now

              • Buy what makes you happy, really is a personal choice. The worst thing is buyers remorse when you don't buy what you want, especially when you are buying such an expensive car.

                • Hi Guys,

New to the forum - I had a 2008 Discovery 3 and I am now looking to purchase my first Prado.

I am interested in getting a 2016 plate Kakadu - has anyone managed to get any prices.

I have got the price of 83,900 drive away with fuel and matts from a couple of dealers around Perth - has anyone managed to do better?

                  Thanks

                  • hi.
just back from seeing a couple of dealers today. the local toyota dealer didnt hve a VX or kakadu to see or drive. He said Vx and kak's difficult to source currently. He didnt wont to talk $$. I had trouble with this dealer a few years ago. Dont know how they sell cars. Was a waste of time seeing him. Will go to another dealer tomorrow.
also looked at Ford Everest titanium. . Battery was flat. Dealer had no idea how to operate seats or controls, but he opened to conversation with ignore the "special " price of $79990 driveaway.. I can do it for $75K. Thats nearly $10,000 off RRP.
Clearly Ford arent moving Everests. So much for being a "Prado Killer"

                    • Insider info
As a general rule of thumb, A good price is considered 10% off RRP driveaway and 15% off a "luxury" car.
Thus a "good price " for you, should be sub $81,000.

                        • From my contacts in the motor industry, any good retail negotiator should be able to get within $500.00 of the top fleet price which is usually between 8% and 10% discount dependant on brand.

Like all goods, what you pay for a car must surely be influenced by supply and demand. The day I put a deposit down was their sale weekend and there was a lot of interest in the new (i.e. 2.8) Prado. I ended up paying $64.5k for a new GXL with some genuine fruit. According to my sums I got over $6k off retail and went home happy enough. I really doubt if there was much more to be squeezed out of the dealer on the day.

Same here, it's on order for delivery pre Christmas. I'm going to miss v6 grunt, but not the fuel bill.

Question - when they say full tank... does that mean both main + auxillary i.e. 150lts?
Question - should i go for 7P round connector for towbar wire harness or flat?
