      Well done.

It is easy when you have a Tardis.

I did three people Melbourne to Darwin in a 3 door 150 SX with a small camper. Nothing on the roof.

      A few questions please;

Did you take the back seat out?

Did you have a cargo barrier?

How did you get to El Questro without so much as dust on it?

      How was the fuel economy?

      Thanks,

      S.

Sweetpea- Yes the rear seats are permanently removed. In most parts of the country this is illegal. So the car had to be reweighed and certified a 2 seater by an engineer.
No I don't have a cargo barrier and don't need one so long as everything is secured properly. more than once the brakes were slammed on hard thanks to a few fast moving roo's and some cattle. Nothing moved!
Yes she had a quick wash in Kunners. The road is bitumen up until that point.
Fuel wise- around 12L/100kms. I actually did the Tanamai on one tank, That's Alice to Halls creek. Long range tank was money well spent!

Shory Prado- That's a James Baroud tent. They're brilliant. Come in different sizes. Mines 2mtrs by 1.4 mtrs. The drawers are ORS systems in Sydney.

I was told by Opposite Lock here in Qld when they were giving me a roadworthy cert that if you tell them it's just temporary, (removal of the 2nd or 3rd row seats) they're OK with it. Can't normally have seat belts with no seats attached. Seats with no seat belt is one thing but seat belts with no seats, well what's the big deal.

If it's your lucky day you'd get away with it I'm sure. It definitely is illegal in NSW and QLD though. I'm QLD registered living in Sydney. A mate of mine was on the 4WD beach to the south of Sydney a few months back and the police were down there looking for rear seat removals. I kid you not!
My setup is permanent and I don't want problems so I just paid the engineer the $500 cash and dealt with it.

                        What rule does it breach?

Apparently if the car is registered as 5, 6, 7 or whatever seater then it must have that many seats with accompanying seat belts. Probably the same in all states. Possibly the only let off could be if the seats (like on 90 or 120 Prado and maybe the 150, not sure about that) are removable without tools required.

                            Interesting.

Until I bought the 150SX I drove Nissan patrols for 15 years. When the dealer put the cargo barrier in he unbolted the third row of seats and said it was illegal to have seats behind the cargo barrier.

I'd like to see an ADR or some other legislative document that explains it.

If you have seats that fold into the floor do they make you unload everything and show you haven't removed them?

                            Thanks,

                            S.
