  • 150 Transfer Case and Actuator Guard

    While designing bash plates for the 150 I've been hung up on what to do about protecting the transfer case and actuator. The problem is that there are not many points to mount to in the middle of the car that are easy to use. Other designs just hang off the transfer case so will still transfer shock loads through to the aluminium gearbox housing. I wanted to mount to something rigid like a cross member or the chassis.

    There are always compromises but I finally came up with something fairly simple that will give good protection to the TC and Actuator.

    Its basically a channel that runs across the chassis rail and also attaches to the mid cross member. Its essentially another cross member and does not sit any lower than the mid cross member or the fuel tank.

    It was a bit of a tricky one to measure, design and draw up as everything was on an angle to meet up with holes in the chassis. I was very pleased that everything lined up with the first prototype. Also very happy with how rigid it is but I have some ideas to make it even better. I'm going to change the section that covers the actuator to give it more clearance and stiffness.

    That's looking really really good Tin. I like the fact it goes up to the chassis. What do you imagine the damage to my back pocket to be for one of these bad boys?

      I actually don't know. I sent it to my laser cutters as a one off prototype without asking for a price. One offs always cost more.

      Its a fair bit more steel and work compared to the TG150 it replaces. My guess would be somewhere between 300-400 for a finished powder coated one. I'd like to think I could keep it under $300 depending on how big a batch I do.

      I'll have to get a quote done on a larger batch before I name a price.

        Forgot to mention that it will only fit Diesel variants.

        The V6 has got a dirty fat pipe in the way that stops me from attaching to the cross member easily.

        It attaches to the chassis using existing holes and some tapped plates on wire.

          I said my opinion on those other gaurds tg150, got shot down! But we have now seen what can happen when you bolt leverage to an average alloy casting. Not cool!

            Looks nice and solid. Would it be worth putting a few slots in the larger plate as well to let dirt and crap fall out of it as well, like you have in the cross member and the smaller plate.

                      Version 2

                      Changed the design. Now is stiffer and has more clearance to the actuator. I have also allowed cutouts for more clearance around the universal joint and the transfer case.



                      I have made a small batch together with bash plates and should be back from powder coating next week.

                            I had initially priced up the first version at $380. For some reason this version 2 is a bit cheaper.

                            They will be $340 ea + Shipping.
