  • Extra Fuel filter and warranty question

    Hi,

getting ready to do a bit of roaming in outback NSW and Qld and have been reading on fuel problems that others have had. I am happy to put in another filter but I am concerned that I may void my warranty or give Toyota an excuse to say No should I have a fuel problem, maybe a pump or something.

Has anyone had this discussion with Toyota where they have refused a warranty claim because there was an after market fuel filter fitted ?

    thanks

I haven't followed any of the more recent dramas with this however as far as I'm aware... (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong)

Many dealerships in regional areas offer to fit a secondary fuel filter at delivery.
As long as the filter has a greater flow capacity than the standard filter and pump can handle there should be no issues. (assuming it has been installed in a suitable manner)

On that note... I have a Raco filter + 10 filters going up for sale soon... haha.

Thanks for the info, I will go and talk to my dealer tomorrow and use that as an example as to why I should have one without effecting my warranty

Update on my progress, after reading Shonky 150s post about a dealer fitting fuel filters and with more help from Ian Reid I went to see my local dealer and they will stand by the warranty as long as they fit this filter after the Toyota one

                          http://www.dieselcare.com.au/toyota-...do150flsecdbfh

The price of the kit is the same as direct plus $100 to fit to protect my warranty, sounds good to me so I am getting it fitted next week.

Because it goes after the Toyo filter the alarms will still sound on the dash so they are OK with it.

someone correct me if I am wrong but my understanding was warranty would not be void if the Toyota original filter was after any additional filters fitted.
if any thing was to happen their filter was the last in the line.
Do most kits supplied go before the OEM filter?

                              Hi fred,

Quite a bit of discussion on the net on this, arguments on both sides. The people who make the filters make both types but recommend the after one as the best way.

Their theory is that when the alarm goes off you still have time and another filter to stop any problems getting to the motor.

Their pre filter is 30 microns, the Toyo filter is 5 microns, the post filter is 2 microns (all from memory) but other brands would be different I assume.

Because mine is new with a Lot of warranty time to come I was keen to make sure that I did not blow it, so I have gone along with the filter maker and Toyota dealers recommendation
