  • Yep, it would be in the way.

Kings brackets might work, MLC has them with recovery points. Looks like he trimmed the bracket to make way for the recovery point. Can't ask, he's way up north. Maybe the Superior brackets can get trimmed also.

In any case, the issue is with the installer.

There is no hole suitable on AMTS recovery points, so it has been drilled:

Better ask amts if the point is still viable.

    • Mine are mounted on top of the chassis rails in the engine bay - I've got some photos somewhere I've been meaning to upload... will try to get to it tonight

      • Ok, photos at last! I took these when the tyre guys had the wheels off - much easier! The hose for the back right one was initially passed between the chassis & body - bad idea, it gets cut fairly quickly on bumpy roads (see a post earlier in this thread).

        • Thanks for the photos Peter. I know understand where you have mounted yours and think that is not a bad idea for the fronts. I had a bit of a look this arvo and the only concern is its right near the exhaust manifold. So it may get hot there.

I went back to the installed this week. They replaced the hose and moved the hose back about 50mm from between the chassis and sway bar, unfortunately they basically refused to move the front reservoir. Not sure if they are arrogant, ignorant or plain lazy. They claim its not a problem being there and is protected by the front the recovery point. I said that is true if you hit some thing dead on and not to the side of the recovery point as its in a very exposed position. Tried arguing but they wouldn't do anything.

Managed to talk to the installer in the workshop. Refused to admit he installed it shit!. He claims that the way he installed the hoses on my prado is how he installs them on all prados and he's never had a problem. Then he went on to say my sway bar was 3-4mm thicker than normal. I said it was a stock sway bar and he said oh it must of been bent different to all the other prados he has installed before. Pure arrogance!! I wonder how many prados with hoses being rubbed they from being in that position. Lucky I check as I was gonna cover the hoses in split tube.

So sorry for the rant. Feel disappointed with the experience from the shop. The product is good but my install was crap. I'm gonna have to spend time the fronts

I was considering the way photoprsdo had his installed but the installed said it was only thin sheet metal and not strong enough for the vibrations. So photoprado has there been any issues with the way you installed it there?

          • Where did you get them installed? Sounds like somewhere to steer clear of...

My front hoses rub a tiny amount on the front drive shafts - I suspect when the suspension bottoms out. I should fix it but haven't had a chance yet.

Mine was installed by Dobinson's Sydney

            • I'm not the type to name and shame companies online in a public environment. I can pm you if you really want to know.

I will sing praises of a company that does the right thing by me and bag the crap out of them to mates and people I talk to. Get my small revenge by not getting any repeat business from me or ppl I know

I'd be naming and shaming them..

Did they say it was ok to drill a hole thru a recovery point too? Thereby reducing its strength?

I'd be asking for a bit of paper saying as such as if that let's go and costs you damage or worse injures someone they'd have some answers to come up with..

So far, I have bounced them all over the Flinders ranges for about 2500km. None of the reservoirs have moved at all. No movement at all. Zip. They are attached to the BODY in the front, not the chassis and there is less vibration on the body than the chassis due to the rubber body mounts. Have a look in your engine bay, there is a lot of stuff attached to the sheet metal and none of it has torn the sheet metal as your installer has suggested.

At this point, I'd be naming. Even if attaching the res to sheet metal is not a good idea (I don't agree), drilling a hole in a seriously important recovery point and mounting a res to it is just plain dumb. Ask Dobinsons if they would guarantee the structural integrity of drilling and mounting the res on a recovery point. They would scoff at the idea.

Mine also installed there, very happy with the service and install.

                    • Soooo.....question with these ones, I'm on the sidelines between the MRR and the tried & tested Billie/King combo.
The one question I had was, do the MRR shocks require different springs depending on your accessories, or because they are adjustable do they use the same spring?

I have an ARB bullbar & dual battery setup.

Both Billies and MRR's are gas pressure shocks. I don't think there would be a difference in springs between them.

The MRR's have an adjustable spring thread on the front struts, so the height can be adjusted per mm. The Billies have several collar rings so the height is stepped. Not a lot of difference. I had Billies on several vehicles but have not been happy with them on the Prado (712/713) so went for something else. Happy with the MRR's so far. There are other Billie options other than those I had.

All setups will require springs to suit carried load and accessories.

I went the MRR and could not be happier.
On road or off road they are just great.

If you were closer more than welcome to come for a run.

                          • Actually, ill be close-ish in a couple of weeks. Heading up to Bathurst!
Although, the wrong side of the blue mountains unfortunately!

I was just about to put some cash down on billies/kings combo, but found a set of MRR excl the rear springs(I have a grande) for the same price!

So does anyone know the part number for the front springs to suit a steel bar/dual battery setup?

Have a look on their website
you can get the part numbers when you put in the car details then look at recommended strings to suit the load

I got told C59-314. I just bought them, so hopefully that is correct. I have steel bar, winch, dual batteries, and apparently these suit the extra front weight.
