  • Upgrading Sat nav to newer sat nav

So I have currently installed a dealer fitted sat nav in my 120 series 2008 prado. Works with the steering wheel controls, has a mic and activation button for bluetooth phone calls and also works with a rear camera using factory wiring in the rear. Unfortunately doesnt have USB or aux connection. and cant stream music

Found on ebay a sat nav from a new toyota that has bluetooth for calls and streaming music, usb, sd card and sat nav.

Question is will it just plug and play and everything still work. main things being reverse camera, steering wheel controls and mic?

As you can see from the pics I needed to get a radio antenna adapter as the newer toyotas have a different connection. It also has a second blue wire, does anybody know what that is for? also the new sstereo came with a small magnetic box as seen in the pics? is that the antenna for the sat nav?

I wanted some advice before I get stuck into it and possibly waste a few hours only to find its different connections or I loose some functions which I wont be happy with.

So has anybody made the change?

So I bite the bullet and installed the newer sat nav. The first time round got sound working and sat nav but pretty much nothing else. After going to Toyota dealership I got a patch harness and connected and got everything working but now no sound. Anybody got any ideas why I lost sound? I've done the obvious like disconnect battery, turned up the volume. Check all plugs and leads

This thing is doing my head in. I wanna just ditch the thing but I've come so far and I'm so close.

I would suggest you pull the unit out, rest it in location and get everything working.
From there, you can do a final fit knowing everything works
Does the patch harness have a mute line for a phone, you might have activated it by mistake.

From there I would suggest you find a good car radio installer and pay him to resolve,
      All the best
Bitumen is boring, at least it can get you to the next off road adventure

Yeah I got everything working once the parts guy gave me the right patch cable. He gave me the wrong cable and I spent 2 frustrating days trying to work it out. Finally did and returned it. New cable and got it all sorted.

So the main things I wanted was steering controls and rear view camera. All good. Only thing I lost was external mic up high. No big deal really and I have t checked if there is that option with Toyota yet for this stereo
