  • LED lightbars - Good options for around $500-

    Hi All

that title is self explanatory but looking to put one on the new alloy bull bar being installed.

Already have Narva 100 globes replacing the standard halogen globes in the car and that's made a phenomenal difference, but want something to complement that as well. don't drive at night that much but heading to Shark Bay in September. like something with some good distance throw. The Narvas provide could flood but a combo light is what i am after. Thinking about 120W/10-12,000 lumens ??

Have done a bunch of research, looking at Lightforce, Cosmoblaze, Osram, NAvra and a host of others, to the point where i'm just overloaded with info.

    any feedback, preferences appreciated.

    thanks

    JC

A couple of others to look at:

Yes these guys are cheap, but I haven't had any issues with my Sun Yee light bar as yet. (except the wiring harness didnt include a high beam switching mechanism)

I think this e-bay one looks a good option at low price risk

      12,000 lumens. I'm tempted myself

After much research, I decided on the Lighforce 20 inch combi led light bar fitted to my OEM nudge bar. Looked at SA Led lighting and Stedi. Phoned many times, left messages, had no call back. They just seemed shonky. Maybe I was just unlucky. Being in Adelaide, I visited Lighforce factory for advice. Can only say that they were great to deal with. $460 for the bar, came with professional wiring loom and they also make switches which are same as OEM switches. Have heard many reports that if you have a problem with Lightforce gear they usually replace it no questions asked, in or out of warranty.

They told me that their bars are made by Aurora as after doing their due diligence on Chinese suppliers, these were the only ones that they were comfortable putting their name too.
Very happy with the light bar. If I need another bar that is bigger , for install on platform, will be going with Aurora. They are available from Home of 12 volt in Adelaide.

I have a sunyee light bar and a set of Narva 225's with a good quality 4300k HID kit. I have just been a two week jaunt but before I left I also converted the high beam with a good quality HID kit.

I did a few night drives while I was away and I could easily do away with the Narvas as the high beam is that good. As for the light bar it is also next to useless against the high beam, but being a cheapy one, all it does is throw a lot of scattered light about that isn't real beneficial.

I have tested the Lightforce and the optics (spread and spot combo) are awesome compared to the no names. I'll being buying the Lightforce shortly and most likely removing the Narvas, although they do look good.

My brother in law and I just wired up a 42" and a 22" Stedi CREE led light bar to my ARB touring rack. 42" between the rack and roof with the 22" between each each vertical bar.
Looks good IMO and they are super bright which is handy as the original high beams alone are inadequate.
They also reduced the wind noise from the rack to a very bearable level easily drowned out by the radio.

                  Images as requested

This is what the installed Stedi lightbars look like. To install the 42" I loosened the roof rack and slid it in. I purchased them because it wasn't much more expensive as opposed to the ARB wind deflector. I'm satisfied with the result.

I have never been in a vehicle with lightbars so I don't know what is good and what is bad however, I am happy with the amount of extra light they provide. In the future I will be adding a pair of spot lights (HID or LED) which I believe will provide extra distance the lightbars don't.

A tight fit which required the roof to be pushed down a little. I will put something between the light and roof to help save the paint. Should be okay.

Using my fingers, I pulled up the black trim on the side of the windscreen and pushed the wires through. They continue through the black rubber in the rain channels. Easy and neat. Just need some cable snake for the engine bay.

I don't have a link but search eBay for Stedi LED and they will come up. The last image is what I bought and prices.

                    Hi Piney,

Just be careful with the lights mounted up on the roof like that. I'm no legal expert but one of the guys at work was booked by the NSW police a few weeks ago as he had done something similar to his prado. The police officer said that it did not comply with Australian Design Rules "lights must be mounted to the front of the vehicle". They were wired into the hi beam with a switch to turn off if need be. I am sure this could be argued but at the end of the day he was booked.

I read the ADR relating to LED's and you're correct stating they should be mounted at the front of the vehicle however, as the illustrative example shows "front" and "rear" with a lightbar on the very front bullbar as correct and a lightbar on the rack behind a dualcab as incorrect, I took the opinion if you split the car in two, mine are in front. I'll wait and see what happens. Not fussed if they have to move though.

I got a 42" bar, a pair of 7" HID's and two square work lights off gumtree a year ago. Still works a treat and puts a massive amount of light out. Guy in Wattle Groce. He even delivered em.

Have you looked at Korr lighting? I fit them on a regular basis and found them to be awesome quality. They put out a great amount of light with a decent spread and spot combo that works well. No scatter. Three year warranty.

Bit more expensive then your usual contenders but I love mine. Min is a single row 1 metre bar that draws 90 watts and easily compares to ebay 120 watt systems.

They have two line ups. Standard in orange packaging and Extreme in green packaging... green is awesome. While the light is similar, the beam is PERFECT. I'll try and take a photo of mine on a wall to show you the shape.

90 watt bar is $470 retail. For $700 they have a dual row 240watt that leaves my hid SPOTS for dead.

Hi guys, Has anyone heard anything about the LEDs that Mickeyblu sell?
Saw some today and they had a 24inch 120watt curved bar for $299.
Seems a little cheap to be great quality, I've not had much to do with LEDs.
