ARB CKMA12 Compressor - under bonnet wiring

I would like to make the cable myself. Please confirm my understanding, red and black from the battery goes to 'motor power' directly. A switch just links/ break the the connection between the two connectors / ' pressure switch' - excuse the terminolgy.

No. The power from the battery must go through the relay before going to the motor.

The pressure switch and the isolation switch is in series and then it goes to the relay to activate the relay.

Thanks. I'm moving the compressor tro make use of the MKII bracket and was looking for a way to simplify the wiring. Best to stick with the ARB loom.

You can still use the relay and make up your own loom. Just make sure that you use the correct gauge wire for the compressor power, or cut off the required amount from the ARB loom.

Yeah, bin that ARB loom! It is a well made loom but just doesn't work for most people. 6mm wire, black goes directly from motor to earth, red goes from positive battery through a suitable fuse to pin 30 on a 4 pin relay. Then carry red 6mm from pin 87 to the positive on the motor. Pin 85 needs to be earthed, some 3mm wire will be fine. Take a length of 3mm off pin 30 (constant power) through a switch onto one side of the pressure switch, then from the other side of the pressure switch to pin 86 on the relay. Done, easy. You can use a circuit breaker if you prefer in place of the fuse. If you're stuck or lost shoot me a PM.

If there is any possibility that you may someday want to install air lockers then you may like to install the ARB harness and just connect the compressor switch inside the car. To get your under bonnet switch, run battery power to a second switch (under the bonnet) and on to the relay wire that triggers the relay. Just splice it on to the ARB wire.
You can also pick up the battery +ve from the powered side of the pressure switch if you don't want to go to the battery.
Note: the diodes in the ARB harness will stop your extra switched power going backwards into the ign and lights...
