Have asked Bilstein & will await their reply.

nm is nanometre unless it means something else. 1 metre divided by 1,000,000,000

Or very small. Reckon it is meant to be Newton metres so should be Nm.

        Happy to be corrected. Again.

Hence the query.... Is valving rate the same as damping coefficient? i.e. the c in Click image for larger version

            Hi Andrew.

It is measured in Newton Metres @ 0.52 Metres per second.

            Regards, Jason.

Hilux & Landcruiser shock specs as requested.

              BE5-D563 is 575mm open, 433mm closed and a rate of 3385newtons over 2225newtons @ 0.52 Metres per Second

B46-1478 is 591mm open, 380mm closed and a rate of 3865newtons over 540newtons @ 0.52 Metres per Second This is the Comfort Shock.
B46-1478S is 591mm open, 380mm closed and a rate of 4260newtons over 890newtons @ 0.52 Metres per second This is the Standard Shock.

                Andrew i'm sorry.

Its measured in Newtons of force, not Newton metres.

                Regards, Jason.

                  Thanks Jason.

If I have read it right, the Hilux struts offer higher damping rates than the Prado for a more sportier feel (flatter cornering).

Interestingly, the LC80 shocks have much lesser damping rates on compression than on rebound. Why is that?

I asked that too considering the weight of the vehicle.
They are done as more of a comfort setup to soak up the bumps, similar to the way Koni do theirs.
Koni's are always soft on bump & catch the spring on the rebound for a softer ride.

The Hilux shock should control body roll more with those rebound rates, but is the length putting ball joints & CV angles at risk?

                    Regards, Jason.

Thanks Jason, some interesting figures there. Explains why the Landcruiser rear shock gives a comfy ride, will be interesting to see how the new longer 150 series rear shock compares.

I have fitted front shocks with an extended length of 570mm and have no issues, AMTS has 573mm front shocks. 575mm is probably at the limit for a Prado, I know Superior Engineering do an Amada Extreme front shock with the same extended length: http://www.superiorengineering.com.a...ducts_id=20379

G'day , Curious if anyone ended up installing the US spec'd Bilstein 5100 from the 07-09 FJ cruiser onto a Prado 150,,, and how do they perform compared to the stock Toyota shocks?
