  • "Quick and easy" rust protection ?

    Hi

am planning a 10 day trip to Shark Bay in September school holidays and taking the 2014 150gxl with camper.

Obviously, Shark Bay is one of the saltiest places you could probably go to in WA !

What are simple methods of preventing rust without getting expensive electronic protection and obviously, not driving into salt water. That said, if its windy, no chance of avoiding that as we will be camping on the beach anyway.

Other than perhaps spraying any exposed / non coated areas of the underbody with RP7 or some other protector spray, what would others recommend ? I will obviously give it a good pressure clean when i get home but that wont be for 10 days.

    thanks for the advice.

Peanut oil is pretty good as a rust preventer, does not smell like fish oil, but if it get onto a hot exhaust, it smells like you are frying food, buy 4 litres or so from a supermarket and use a pressure sprayer to spray it every where, in sills, chassis rails, inside doors, it is very runny and will get into all the cracks and crevices, it does not dry either, so with in reason will repair/re-coat it'self if knocked.

I wouldn't worry about 10 days at Shark Bay and your car getting rusty from it. Keep out of the salt water, which there is no need to drive in anyway, and give it a good wash when you get home and you should be fine. A lot of the treatments just attract sand and will cause you more harm than good anyway.

I didn't wash mine for a month after I went to shark bay, mind you I drove through a bit of rain a week or so later, then some mud, then some more rain and mud

      Cheers Andrew
