      Then the blame is solely on Toyota. If the injector seats are meant to be changed every 40,000km, and you took it to the dealer for the major 40,000km services and the engine failure is due to the injector seals, then Toyota needs to foot the repair bill.

        If you had the 40 & 80k services at Toyota and the car now has 246000 on it then someone missed the seals many times after Toyota so why don't you chase them?

          Seems a valid point to raise. If Toyota completed 3x 40k services to 120k then whomever completed the next 3x 40k services up to the bang at 246k may be 'liable' for not servicing as per the requirements?

            The first 2 40k & 80k the above dealer, when they stamped & signed the book, they as a Toyota approved dealership are required to service it as per the book.
            The recall clearly confirms this injector r&r requirements. The 40k is first opportunity this could have been prevented, so the buck stops there.

            I have no idea why Toyota Aus is paying parts & labour to dealerships to fix the seat / seal problem but they are.
            It's clearly the dealerships at fault. As I have written before, maybe Toyota Aus told the dealerships not to do them???

            After that well if it went to another workshop & they did the service by the book, 120, 160, 200 yes you could blame them also, but logic takes you back to 40k & couple that with the same Toyota dealership at 80k, double doozie!!!!

            I don't service as per Toyota book, I have my own schedule based in what's required, not what a book said that was written before the engine was on the road.
            I leave the engine shut UNTILL 120k, at which time I would have got the dodgy seals. That's my schedule.
            I check oil pickup, so if there was blow by before then, I catch it!
            At 120k you replace injectors, as they are coming out anyway. They are cheap too because I don't charge to r&r them at 40k & 80k.
            Then depending what your valve clearances are, & if they are adjusted, you won't open it again till 240k.
            I do a diagnostic on injectors every 10k, if they don't make it, you might have to go in early.
            I explain this to all my clients.

            So, small claims against that dealership, pretty simple, I wish I could b the magistrate, but anyone can figure it out pretty quick.

                I agree, don't give up mate! Threads like this make me feel ashamed of the brand I love and respect. Toyota seem to have been acting like a$$hats treating aussie diesel customers the way they do regarding the injector-seat problem. It has always sounded like a known issue and probably attended to more thoroughly in Europe etc, but when it comes to Australia head office must have just murmured "she'll be right mate" and be done with it. If they are removing the injectors and replacing washers every 40k in other regions, but not here, then thats f#cked. Something is wrong. They even listed that down in black and white in that "customer service exercise" document posted above. You have old receipts right? The only people who care that ALL your services weren't done at a Toyota stealership are Toyota. Your vehicle gave them two opportunities to follow THIER OWN service schedule correctly and obviously the dealership didn't, so you need to turn the screws down on that dealership! It shouldn't matter that you bought the vehicle after that. I swear Toyota love taking us Australians for a bunch of muppets. They know we love our diesels and will pay through the nose to own them and then therefore assume we will put up with and accept all these not-so-small/not-so-cheap problems. In my mind you should be able to buy and drive a vehicle, especially a premium vehicle like a Prado, for the first 200,000km's or so before forking out big-dollars for unscheduled maintenance or maintenance items, just like the “cough” 4.0L petrol V6 “cough” for example. Having to worry about your diesel fuel injectors & sealing washers goes against everything I love about diesels. Reliability. (I only love pre-electronic diesels for the record.) Unfortunately, I'm guessing that most of the people that this has happened too have been loyal Toyota fans and maybe not so mechanically-minded, therefore have proceeded to bend over the barrel and take it from Mr T, forking out thousands of dollars for something that should be covered by Toyota, no-questions-asked. It is obviously a manufacturers fault.
                -PS. I love Toyota diesels and we were going to pull the trigger on a D4D Prado (even though I am well-aware of all the issues) but we went with the thirstier petrol V6 due to that engine really being "bomb-proof" when compared to the 1KD. I like paying a little more money every time I fill the tank much more than worrying about taking time to remove injectors etc at a service interval.

                      I spoke with a Consumer Protection vehicle/mechanical expert yesterday!

                      Not very encouraging phone call! He knows Toyota is at fault and should be liable but unfortunately it's the 'little man vs the big machine'! He's had many cases about this issue without any being successful! They worm their way out of everything with 'loopholes' and legal fine print!

                      He pretty much told me I had Buckley's chance! But I'm still going to take them to small claims court! 9 weeks and counting, I've come this far! I might just land an understanding magistrate 😉
