Ive taken the 285s off because they were getting caught up on the inside on full lock while I was off roading.
The weight of the tyres was also causing various dramas so I've downsized to a 265 70 17 nitto trail grappler.

What is the width of the rim? any differences in stability and ride during cornering?

Hi all, Has anyone tried the new Dick Cepek Fun Country tyres yet. I have had the DC FC11 on now for a good few years now and currently have 90,000kms on without a flat. A fair bit of that has been off road and a lot of towing a pop top van. I definitely don't have a prob with them, but the new ones look a lot better again and are supposed to be very quiet. Not that the FC11 were noisy. Cheers Bill.

Hi Bill , I have them in 265,s and they seem to go well in the mud, rock and surprisingly well in sand. Good to see yours lasted 90k . Mine have 10k on them and I can notice only the tiniest bit of chipping on the sides not too noisy either at 10k
            Cheers Matt

I found it hard for the torque converter to lock, so torque converter temps were at around 110-115 degrees and when the car changed gears i could feel it throw me forward.

                17 x8.5 rim..

Driving around town it felt good. Speeds over 100 made the car feel unsettled.

Any increased track width will give you better stability, however the higher profile, extra weight and being a mud tyre made it hard to tell.

Mattfunk 120 Hi Matt, Mine are starting to show a bit of age now, but I think I should get the big 100,000km out of them if all goes well. They have copped a fair bit of rough stuff. I notice that the new Fun Country tyres are 3 ply sidewalls compared with 2 ply in mine now. That sounds good. Well hope yours hold up as well as mine have. The secret is moving them around approx 5 or 7,000 km. I run mine at 32psi all the time unless Im towing, then 34 F and 36 rear. Must go. take care Cheers Bill.

" That's a mean looking wheel and tyre combo. Just need the spare sorted. Will the 285/70r17 +6 offset fit on the rear door?"

I bought a spacer and have taken off the tyre cover all together. 265/70/17x8 rims fit fine on back door, spacer stops the tyre from rubbing on door. I wouldn't be going any bigger without buying after market rear tyre bracket.
