So what are the thoughts on a Dobinsons springs and Tough Dog adjustable shocks combo?

      Hey Vaelen,

Since you're from Brissy, I'll throw Driveline Services into the mix as a plug for the local boys!

I'm running their Durashocks with Dobinsons, 2" lift with maximum articulation.

Keep in mind strut/shock closed/open length is important to achieve good articulation and droop, which can easily rule out several manufacturers.

Have been looking around and seems like the dobinsons remote reservoir shocks are the go for a good dobinsons all round kit.
        Has anyone tried them?

I've seen images with info relating to those Dobinsons remote res shocks for Navaras etc with part numbers, but the dobinsons website shows nothing whatsoever. Very strange.

            Hey Jason,

I have thought of that, my problem is I'm not running a big business here, & as you know there's only 38hrs working in a week.
My 38hrs is spoken for! I'm not into getting real busy either.
What that means is, if I was to spend money to get work, (which I have not done in over 10 years), it would be for nothing.
If for example I do a suspension fit up for a member here, it's another job or customer I cannot service at the other end.
So it's really just a conversion, not worth anything, (other than a new friendship) however the benefit is for the Prado & Hilux owners as I do specialise in those, that experience as you know will forever increase my expertise.
The reason I'm here is to offer help & assistance to the like minded Prado community, not to increase business.
I'm not saying I'm the best or know everything about it either, so please keep up the good work your comments are appreciated by the members.

It's a bit like when a certain member negged me for replying to another members question about injector jobs in Perth, eg; doing 1 job there costs me 5 jobs at home, it's not about the money or advertising, it's about helping out the people.

The other thing I do is, recommend to my customers they join Prado point & Prado tech so they can get the information they want, you see it's a two way street.

I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

            Cheers,

            ####.

The Dobinsons mrr gear is getting released slowly part number by part number.
The Prado gear is not here yet, I will let you know when it is.
Your looking at about $330 a corner retail.

It's guys like you #### that allow guys like me to gain knowledge the easier way, by asking a question.
If we all never shared knowledge and were genuinely just nice blokes, everyone would only ever learn by beating their heads against a wall until they find a way.

I am new to Diesels and 4x4's and Prado's. I used to be a full on street racer. lol

I for one appreciate this forum and its help

                Cheers,

For $330 per as opposed to ARB's BP-51 ($895 per unit for the front struts alone), I'll be having the Dob's thanks!
                  lol

By the time i have the budget for the suspension upgrade, I reckon the mrr's might be on version 2.0, but still, they seem to be the best of both worlds at the moment.

                    I appreciate your comments.

I will throw it out there, if people want to spend more on suspension than the usual Dobinsons kit, I think MONROE, & KYB are only a little more expensive, MONROE about $250.00 more for the kit, KYB $300 & those are made in Aus & Japan, top brands & manufacturers.
                    I still use Dobinsons coils.
Remote res are very expensive & so is labour & parts to r&r & rebuild them, I certainly won't be pushing people to spend on them.

                    Cheers,

                      Hi all

I'm new here, just purchased 05 GXL petrol V6, complete stock.
Will start putting my build up somewhere on here.
I made use of latest ARB promo for 2" OME, $250 off. Gets installed this week.
After discount works out to $1670 installed which I thought wasn't bad.
                      Keep you posted.

                        How did this go?
I am very confused on which way to go, with different quotes and information available.....i got confused 2 years ago and left it as too busy during week to do anything, but the standard suspension has sunk and I'm sick of using the bash plates as drag plates lol.

I have a 2006 v6 120 with arb deluxe and winch and 4mm bash plates to transmission, 4wdsupacentre full steel cage, steel spare tyre on roof and back, lpg tank instead of standard rear petrol tank (maybe another 30kg on top of the standard rear fuel tank) and hoping to put in drawers and a roof top tent. Currently running 265/70r17 coopers.

                        options ( parts only) :
                        1) lovells $1400 2inch kit non progressive
                        2) bilstein be5 a712 kit with progressive kings (but I read bad reviews here) $1600
                        3) dobninsons kit with progressive springs and remote reservoir $1600
                        4) ome $1550

Installaiton is about the $450 mark, except dobinsons who offered a discount on the install of $300.

the car probably does 70% bitumen and a combination of sand and bush/mud tracks. I regularly get two wheel diagonal rocking motion on tracks I hit and keen to get into the harderore rutted tracks. Once the kit is on keen to hit Fraser, maybe Simpson desert crossing and go up to the cape (long term dream).

ride on road is also important as my 3yo doesn't like bumpy ride. ... I took her to test drive dual cabs and she didn't like the rough ride and asked me to let her Out! !

                        any thoughts / experiences?

I just installed a 2 inch strut assembly in the front of my 2005 120 Grande. Running a TJM steel bull bar, 4wd SUPA steel roof cage, with plans for winch and second battery. Have seen the front wheel clearance from the top of wheel to the bottom of bull bar increase from 140mm to 200mm. The new ride is firm as I selected the constant load kings springs. Overall, feels solid and the ride is better than previous on the stock struts.

Bilstein shocks and constant load king springs.

I purchased from Wholesale Suspension in Sydney as a pres assembled kit for $820. Installed my self in a day.

                          Overall very happy.
