  • Best 50mm / 2" suspension lift kit.

    Hi Guys,

I am going to upgrade my 2007 KDJ120R GXL suspension soon.
I don't really want to go more than 50mm as I have heard that ride dynamics and additional work is then required, if that's not the case, then what height is recommended.
What I am hoping to find out is what is in your opinion the best kit for the job that will actually give a full 50mm lift when installed.

So much to read on this. Best is nothing other that opinion. I am very happy with the ARB Kit, you will need to choose how soft or hard you want it, in general I think soft is better but depends on the weight you will carry. In the ARB line up even soft is significantly harsher ride than standard. You will probably not get the full 50mm up front seems most kits are closer to 40mm. Rear can get well over 50 mm with no particularly bad dynamics but they tend to be the harder / harsher spring & shock combos that will give 70mm or more.

If its about height, then best, that is the correct spring selection.
Best coil range to do so is Dobinsons.
If best is looks, well Dobinsons yellow looks good on turquoise, you could use Arb/ome, or MONROE all yella.

All the best gear for your Prado those brands.
If you would like best value for money, the Dobinsons combo.

In General we carry small to medium loads. Excluding the passengers, she would maybe have max 100kg - 200 kg load. Including passengers, probably just over 300kg - 500kg. As she is a daily drive and I am not building a rock-hopper, softer will probably be the go.

And oddly enough, Unsealed 4x4 decided to throw me a curve ball:

I recently got ironman foam cell pros fitted, ended up with 45mm lift to the front and 75mm in the rear (with black widow drawers fitted) ride is way better than standard, not harsh at all. I got the constant load spring kit due to winch, steel bar, battery, drawers, fridge, roofrack, occasional rooftop tent. Shocks are massive and rebuildable too. 795mm bottom of rim to guard at the front and 830mm at the back.

Perfect height! 45mm lift at front & 50mm at rear. (from standard height) nice.

Yeah thats exactly what I am looking for!

Don't quite know if I need the constant load shocks though...

                    @Tony: What price were they?

Just under $1400 for the kit, price was straight out of the ironman catalogue. I got mine fitted by the local ironman w/shop and they were great to deal with, fitting cost extra obviously

                        Cheers,
                        Tony

The lighter spring rate (comfort load?) was around $100 cheaper

I will be going with dms suspension (Drummond)when the time comes, Aus designed and made and has had a great following from the rally guys for years. I have a set in my rally car and notice they are now branching out into the 4x4 market. http://www.dmshocks.com/home_2.htm
