Ok.. So the bar is a genuine Toyota steel bar and is winch compatible. I rang Toyota spare parts but they don't think that the bar requires a cradle? Think I will ring another dealer. Can't imagine the winch bolting to the front of the bar.

That is the usual way for steel bars. Can you posts some pics of the inside of the bar.My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

I hope this upload works better than my previous efforts...
This is a picture from underneath the bar. What you can see is the section that would get "punched out" for the hawse and the section that has already been punched out on top of the bar. There are four bolt holes on the front facing section of the bar. From what you are saying mjrandom is that these four bolt holes are for the bolts that mount the winch?
I don't see how this would work. What I was thinking was that there should be a "cradle" running behind the bar that the winch sits on?

I would think so. Any part numbers on there? #1 son has a P ute and it had the factory steel winch bar (made by ARB just as I suspect yours was made by TJM for Toyota at the time). Googled the numbers and found the fitting instructions on line. Sadly the winch he bought wouldn't fit so a new bar was procured. But that is another story... Gen Y, must buy everything at least twice... Anyway the winch bolted straight into the steel bar, no cradle. My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

Thanks MJrandom. No part numbers... The bar does look very much like a TJM t15. I took it to them and one guy said it was a TJM bar until he saw the blinkers and realised they were a Toyota part not TJM.
A mate of mine has a 80 series with a factory bar and it too bolted straight on as it appears this should be. Everything appears to align so I guess I'll give it a crack!
