G'day Anders. Sounds like a great trip even if it is a bit rushed but sometimes it's that or nothing when you're time ( and $ ) poor. I'd be keen depending on my situation at the time given we had to can our cape trip this year.
The kids and I are also really keen for another snow trip maybe in the second week of our school holidays! They still rave about the last one.
Cheers, Ben.

That's a shame you had to can your Cape Trip this year I remember reading that you were heading up.
Bring on the snow, we are all hanging again to get up there and have some fun.

I'm just curious as to what everyones experience with trips like this has been in regards to how much cash you would need to have saved??
We are a family of 5 (3 young boys, missus and me), and if I was to go I would probably have to take a week to get from Ballarat to Cairns and then a week back, all up making the trip 4 weeks...
I'm thinking that this might be a big ask financially?? Just curious what everyone elses experience with costs for these sorts of trips is.
We would probably be tenting as we don't have a camper trailer, but that may change if we can get hold of a good second hand one...
Cheers

Make sure you grab a Archie Burger on day 4.
If you need any advice get in contact with Jason Holt. He lives on the cape and will only be too happy to help.

From Sydney it took us 3 days to Cairns (each way) then we spent about 2 weeks getting up to Seisia and back to Cairns...We had three kids (12, 13 & 10mths) plus us two...
We planned it for 12 months, getting the Prado ready and saving the coin...My god I cant wait to get back up there again...I miss it every dayLast edited by Colmano; 10-05-2015, 11:01 AM.2010 Toyota Prado GXL V6 4.0i - Silver Pearl - ARB Deluxe Bar - Warn Magnum Winch - GME UHF - Dual Battery - Redarc 1225 - Cooper AT3's

I have been "going" to Cape since 1986, and so far never made it. Had discussed it with the family (wife and 14 and 22 yo sons) and we are kind of committing to it now (taking only short holiday over Christmas, to save up for the cape). So put me down, however at this time I am only about 50% sure at this time. It will very much depend on financial situation and school results of my younger son.
We would be travelling with my dad's Ultimate camper trailer. Kids and wife would probably fly to/from Cairns. Still have to work out the details.
Cheers

I've been up the cape twice and although a very long time ago I remember it well. First time was with a trailer and second without. I plan to go again someday and would preference no trailer. Even with a family I would make every effort not to take a trailer. Back then there was nothing and no one around. We got stuck at Gunshot for over three and a half hours and not one vehicle come past and that was in June being peak season.
Now days you don't need to take so much with you as long as you are prepared to buy most of your food along the way. I say keep it simple, keep your weight down leave the trailer at home. Whatever you decide it's a challenging and memorable trip all 4x4 enthusiasts should experience.
